Council tax letters outsourced

Heard today from a fellow postie that our area's council tax letters, rather than being delivered by us like normal, have been delivered by some unknown company. Apparently our council didn't want to pay out for second class postage. Apparently these people delivering them are being paid 15 p a letter. I live in the neighbouring area to my DO and all our council tax letters were delivered by RM. But the other issue is, apart from work lost, is they are still using RM branded envelopes and they're not being delivered properly, being left insecure, dropped on the street etc. and our posties are getting the blame, because it says they've delivered by us on the envelope. It all seems very dodgy, isn't there a legal issue with suddenly setting up a mail delivery on the cheap?

so your not concerned about a large chunk of work being given to a rival company? so when more contracts leave and we start to lose jobs will you be volunteering to be one of the first to lose your job?

Yes this will be true as has been going on a while.

My sister used to clean up in her area delivering council tax letters for 12p a drop, this was about 10 yrs ago. She used to get around 1000 dropped off on the Friday and have a week to do them. She would do them over the weekend and earn £120 which was half a weeks wages at the time.

They normally look the same as dsa or 2nd class so you have to watch being blamed for miss deliveries.

It used to be around 12-13p per item, I'm not sure what it is now.

Those council tax letters would be a great earner at 15p each, I could do my walk in 2.5hrs max with no packets or signed fors and would earn £90!

They aren't setting up a delivery company - a delivery company offers a delivery service to other businesses, organisations or individuals.

They are simply distributing their own material rather than paying a delivery company to do it for them.
