By chance, I looked at my holiday sheet in my work today, and see my name for being off on hoiliday on week beginning 17th march has my name scored out.
I have knew for months I was off on this particular week so have booked a house move, train tickets to see my children and generally made a lot of plans.
I've been told since that I was due to give the work some days back(for an emergency I had last year),
Thing is, my manager has never informed me he has scrubbed these holidays, so I made important plans.
My manager went home early today so I have to wait till Monday to sort this out.
Where do I stand? Surely my manager can't just delete those holidays and not tell me.

Re: Holidays cancelled
yes you are quite correct your manger has no right to delete you from holiday dates that has already been accepted. Furthermore now attempting to clawback your holidays without having the decency to inform you and more important at such short notice could you imagine if the shoe was on the other foot. Your line of action would be Union rep, next level of manager, employee relations officer for your area or a 2nd stage grievance but due to time aspect would use the other alternatives given.

Re: Holidays cancelled
Ok thanks for the reply, I've been in Royal Mail for nearly 17 years and worked under what I thought were some bad managers, but I've never seen anything like this.
Although I probably shouldn't be shocked at anything nowadays.

Re: Holidays cancelled
I think the fact the manager has failed to discuss WHEN to take back the leave is a bit outrageous.
A decent Rep may be able to argue for the reinstatement of the holiday.
If nothing else, you should inform of the necessity of the leave, and request to bring a week forward from next years allotment.
Its a bit disgusting to do this to you, especially at such short notice.
You an also ask for special leave to move house (though it would likely be unpaid).
Nothing that managers do shocks me anymore.

Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.

Re: Holidays cancelled
If he's not discussed it with you , then you have no knowledge they've been cancelled

Re: Holidays cancelled
If you still have a copy of your original holiday sheet then you've won the war, if you've made plans they have to honor it. If he wants to claw back tell him you're happy to sit down I discuss it and reach a mutual agreement. Or my favourite would be to go sick lol

Re: Holidays cancelled
As others have said, if you have your original holiday sheet, then carry on with your plans as normal.
An employer can cancel AL, but they have to give notice at least equal to the leave itself, so to cancel a weeks leave they would have to give you a weeks notice, and of course any decent manager wouldn't cancel leave in the first place!
From what I can tell his chance to cancel has gone!
Definitely get your rep involved if they play up!
