Delivery office differences

My question is what time do you normally get out on a week day morning and what time do you normally finish? We never get out on a week day earlier than 9.15,sometimes upto 10am because usually the packets arnt sorted til breaktime 8.30. My friend works in a nearby office,similar size and they have to be back for 1.30pm,most are back for 1pm and on saturdays they are done for 11.30. Their duties are of similar size but their packets are all sorted by 8 at the very latest. Ive never once had a day like that.
What is this down to? More efficiently run office? I actually went to another office a while back and everyone was tied up for 8.30.This is a whole hour earlier than us.

Could be anything. My office packets normally done for 745 - 8am, yet we are not out till 9:30 to 10:30 depending on duty.

Even on a quiet day our packets arent done before 8,only on a saturday. These offices are either overstaffed which allows a couple of extras to sort packets or brought in earlier. Guess its down to the managers descression but when we are piled on with lapsing and can barely finish ontime anyway I dont see why a bit of extra time cant be cut like some offices are clearly capable of.

They may not be overstaffed (you may be understaffed though). They could have a different mail/packet profile to your office, and they could have a different overall call profile. Don't forget that density, housing type, affluence and duty type will all affect what type of mail profile each office has.

About the same for me at mine.

At ours the "normal" times are...
Start time 06:30 (sorting mech + IPS)
07:30 second delivery arrives (more sorting!)
9:15 - 9:30 out the door
14:15 finish

Busy days more likely to be out the door at 10:00 or even 10:30
Quiet days out the door by 8:45

Busy days back 14:30 (it seems to be the sorting that takes a longer time on busy days, as volume of mail increases but not really the number of houses to deliver to)
Quiet days back 12:30!

That is if we are just taking out our rounds, though there is usually some lapsing to do (past few weeks has been at least 2 rounds )

We have a two-tiered start time. Some rounds in at:

0645 - straight on IPS until
0800 - prep mail and tie up
0900-0945 (depending on mail volumes) depart office
1445 - duty finish

Other rounds in:

0745. - straight on prep
0900-0945 depart office
1545 - duty finish

Monday, Tuesday and Saturday are shorter days by apprrox 8 minutes and Wednesday to Friday are longer, adjusted for increases in mail volumes on those days.

A far cry from the 0430 starts when I joined 12 years ago!

Wow. I don't even start til 9:30. I'm usually out at 10:30 and finish at 3:30pm. An hour earlier on a saturday.

Depends on the duty

some FT take 20 minutes before leaving and 20 minutes whilst delivering

some take 40 minutes whilst delivering and others take 40 minutes before leaving.

Part Timers take them before going out or when on delivery. Its basically left up to the individual as long as they take their breaks.
