Dom threatens to change start time

Post by GILO »

Hi there! We are almost 4 months into our revision (still hasn't been signed off) and I've experienced difficulties in completing my duty in the allocated time almost on a daily basis. My job was eventually tested about 4 weeks ago when I went over by 20 mins on a day when the call rate was a tad over 60% (missed 280 on a round of 727.) The Dom admitted the round was over and on discussion with my union rep (both present on delivery) suggested a number of streets being taken off. The Dom then went on holiday for 3 weeks returning this week so nothing has happened in the meantime. On my return from delivery yesterday (20 mins late) my assistant Dom suggested that we would have to alter my start time to a later one ( I think he is getting knarked as he has personally had to complete my delivery on a number of occasions in the past week). My union rep is off work this work so I was hoping someone could advise me whether or not my Ass Dom is able to carry his threat through? Many thx Gilo

Sorry but I'm having trouble understanding this.

How would altering your start time affect the delivery time of your round?

Making it start an hour earlier or later won't mean you will suddenly finish it magically on time.

They'll lapse the indoor bit by getting someone else to do a partial or full prep, thereby the DOM believes this will throw up more "outdoor" time by moving the whole duty 20 or 30 minutes further on.

Welcome to the reality of the CWU and its members accepting the 2010 Agreement which contained the little gem "Delivery Span is an enabler" http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... an#p253628" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Royal Mail and CWU agree that the length of the delivery span can be an enabler in bringing about mutual benefits. From now on, within the process of duty revision negotiations, spans must be looked at in the context of an enabler rather than a fixed amount of time to be aimed at.

As to the original question, they can impose it if they follow certain procedures. You'll need to get the Union involved if not the local rep then the Area Delivery Rep to make sure they do.

Thank you all for your replies. True Blue, I think this is what the Ass Dom was implying. I like to add that there are several issues in the office regarding delivery times (whether the Ass. Dom makes the same threat to the other guys remains to be seen.) If he does then surely this would have a major impact on the indoor element of the office.

Yes,others may have to do more indoor work which would impact on their outdoor times!

I'd be interested in an answer to this as well...is there a maximum delivery span?

What annoys me in all of this is the knee jerk reactions of managers. Instead of putting things right at sourse they irrepressibly create more problems later on. After all it was their beloved GEO tool or the tool who inputted the information that's created this scenario. I took the duty on in good faith that GEO had produced the correct delivery span and now feel aggrieved that I may have to accommodate them. The reason I picked the duty in the beginning was because of the attractive start/finish time. Grrrrr

They can change start time and break times if they give 28 days notice, they tried this at my
Office, still doesn't alter delivery times, so therefor still left stuff every day, stick to ur guns, good luck

I believe that the Delivery Constraints Span has now been scrapped. Read it somewhere in the lead up to the new agreement. I think the only constraint now is that the duty must be fair, reasonable and achievable. Yet another nail in the coffin. Perhaps Dingo can clarify this.
