Restricted goods

Hello fellow posties!

In with my packets I often get aerosols (likely hair colour sprays for fancy dress from ebay... from reading the description on the label) however they are not wrapped or labelled according to RM 'Restricted Goods' guidelines at http://www.royalmail.com/personal/help- ... cted-Goods" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Aerosols must be tightly packed in strong outer packaging and must be secured or cushioned to prevent any damage. Volume per item must not exceed 500ml. No more than two aerosols can be sent in any one package. An ID8000 label must be applied

Often they are just in one of those grey plastic bags with no id8000 label (the diamond with a Y in).

Is there a protocol I should follow and can I refuse to take them? What if it gets pierced when I am delivering? I am worried if I took it to the DOM he would laugh at me and tell me to take it out. This is why I have always just delivered them.

But I was wondering what the correct procedure is? Does anybody know or has anybody come across this?

It's never crossed my mind to wonder what is inside the packets I'm delivering. I have no idea what is restricted and what isn't. It's not part of my job. Were you bored?

I've often wondered as well what is and is not restricted. I have noticed there is a restricted label on some Amazon packages from time to time that says something about batteries. Also when collecting from the Post Offices there's a notice up that has something on it about restricted items. Not read it though tbh.

The restrictions on Lithium Batteries and Aerosols are not based on a H&S concern for posties so I don't think it would be possible to refuse to deliver them. The restrictions have come in since February 2013 (IIRC) because of a change by IACO and are based on aircraft safety.

It may be worth mentioning it to your manager that a restricted item has reached your duty without the correct paperwork so that RM can get an accurate picture of how much is getting through. But we all know how much interest there will be.
