Mail delivery times in Midsomer Norton and Radstock may change in the next few weeks.

Royal Mail is shaking up deliveries in postcode areas BA3, BA4 and BA5, as part of a national programme of changes.

The firm said its postmen and women would use different delivery methods including greater use of trolleys and vans, and be adopting revised delivery routes.

The changes are being brought in because the number of letters being posted is falling, while the number of parcels through firms such as Amazon are rising.

The company will be writing to every home and business in Radstock about the changes.

There will still be morning deliveries in the area, with many customers continuing to get their mail by lunchtime.

However, it said the time customers receive mail would depend on where they lived on new delivery routes.

A spokesman said: "This may be later or possibly earlier than current delivery times.

"When mail volumes vary the company may need to adjust delivery arrangements and times."

He said delivery routes needed to be reorganised to be as efficient as possible.

The spokesman added: "We also deliver more larger items and so we are investing in new equipment to carry these items to customers even more securely.

"The new equipment also reduces the risk of injury to our postmen and women from carrying heavier mailbags."
