Collections being added to your round??

In waste-time-learning this morning we had the rep address us concerning collections. As from 09/02 we will be expected to collect from any pillar boxes on our walks. Howls of protest...
I asked (sarcastically) whether this would in place of lapsing and we were all told that if we envisaged it affecting our deliveries to report it, similar to cutting-off.
Now I am not sure what effect this has - does it mean there will be less/no collections staff employed Mon-Sat or only Sundays (this meaning the white tile on the pillar box which used to say 'last collection 17:30 would now state 'last collection when the postie gets to it, between 09:30 and 15:00' ??
OR will there still be the normal later 17:30-ish collection on top of ours, thus resulting in the sorters/sorting machines getting 2 lots instead of 1, for efficiency??
Anybody getting similar?

Back in 1985 when I first joined RM all the town deliveries in my DO (which has a 50/50 split between town and rural deliveries) collected from boxes on their way round the walk. This was stopped in the mid-90s and all town collections were motorised. The village jobs carried on collecting as they went. Now most small town boxes only get one collection in the evening and collection routes are bundled up with deliveries to create hybrid duties.

I don't see the problem in emptying a box you are walking past, it takes a few minutes to empty, unless it is full, then that should be dealt with differently.

I do however have a problem with a box being emptied early, its a bit like a bus turning up and leaving early.
If that is happening, flag it up with RMHQ, they won't allow this.

And you always get the same statement, if there is an issue let the manager know. And that will be followed by 'just work to your time' from some people.

What else can we do whilst delivering? Read meters?

We heard this going around. I think its all ok (we used to do it) as long as its built into the planning stage of an office. If you have a sub on your delivery you will be emptying the box whilst folks come out and keep handing you mail etc.

Definitely happening - we had the assessor going round the frames this morning asking "what time on a Saturday would you get to the post box on xxx street?". How the f*ck do I know??? I am a reserve, I don't know like the regular postie and it also depends on what time we can get out, the lapsing and volume of mail. We were told in WTL to listen to the training well, as if we don't follow procedure or miss one, then we have to go back out.
Is this idea just the product of our DOM autonomously getting brownie points by cost-cutting, or is it being reeled out nationwide?

Apart from the pay cut, annualised hours and not yet full flexibility as in chopping and changing duties (but we are supposed to work as directed or do reasonable requests) most of the things have come to past - minus the meter reading, of course.

At our WTL this morning we got a short video from ADUMB Dozier (cant remember what it said as I switched off my brain at the mention of the name "CROZIER"
Then a 10 Min POWERPOINT presentation about the "Business Plan"
Then another Video

KEY POINTS.......

* Meter reading for the GAS / ELECTICITY ( I'm NOT kidding.....No seriously, I'MM NOT KIDDING )
( you'll need your torch to see the meter under the stairs...... )

* Flexable working (do what your told , when your told )

* Anualised Hours......( Mega summer lapsing with knobs on ..... You lose ! )

* Increased direct-mail volumes

* Increased packet volumes

* Increased D2D's

* "Competitive level of pay" ....That'll be a pay CUT then !

* TEAM-WORKING !!!!

There was lots more, too much to mention......

If we lose this strike....WE'RE BONED !

PS- Can you suggest some other peoples jobs that we could pull in on delivery to help Uncle Al get next years hard earned bonus for his MUPPET PUPPET ADUMB ( and a small bonus for himself too......)

Maybe we could take on the contract for social services and give old people bed-baths etc. Or collect the bins for the local council

Thanks. They're doing more than 'looking at it' now it seems. Just give me a mobile jetwasher and I'll offer a wheelie bin cleaning service as I go round.

I tried collection once and the keys were a mine field - not all of them had proper labels. And swapping postboxes' ancient keys left right and centre is asking for trouble
