Now an ex postie

Well after a stint of just short of 12 years Im now a former postie. Been IHR by RM. What with diabetes and depression I could no longer do the job I once loved. I wont miss the job as much as I will miss my workmates. Got some top mates out of it, good banter, we stuck together when we needed to. Wont miss some of them on the job, the toadies, jobsworths, "stab you in the back" types. The only decent lino has just taken IHR as well Hopefully I will find another job, Ive havent been unemployed for nearly 30 years. Will enjoy the lump sum, holiday and a few luxuries. As I left my office for the last time after seeing the DOM, I bumped into a couple of fellow posties, reminiced a bit , and I did have a tear in my eye as I walked out the building.

Good luck to all you chaps and chapesses. especially in the next few years, cos no one really knows how the job will go. My excellent union rep was a starman regarding my time off and subsequent IHR, great help and support. All the best to you all. Will pop in from time to time to catch up on the news and goss.

Tigercat would have ben allowed to keep his allocated shares as his leaving is not classed as any misconduct.He will however have to remove his shares from the RM trust fund and place them elsewhere as he is no longer an employee

All the best mate. Sorry you had to leave in such a way but at least you got some money from them. I don't think you will be the last as 40% of my office are under Atos with injury.

Thanks for all the kind comments. I was offered IHR before Xmas, I had time to think it over while RM sorted out the cash offer. Talked it over with the other half and made the decision, pros and cons and such. So it wasnt forced upon me and the IHR was offered by RM as I had no return to work date.

I took IHR in june after 14 years....basically my hip/back gave up....scared at first trying to get back in the job market. ..I got myself a job back at my local council. .....so there is life after R/M....good luck in the future. ..

Got IHR back in June/July and haven't looked back since . As you say the biggest loss is the banter and not the job .

Im considering my " options " regarding finding a job . No hurry ;)
