Transfer advice to Edinburgh please

Im planning to move to Edinburgh in near future to be with partner. Therefore putting in a transfer from my current delivery office, im on 30 hours and a driver. What is the procedure to do so. Do I approach my DOM with the offices I would consider. Do I contact the offices in Edinburgh. I have a list of 4/5 possible new locations in Edinburgh. Does any one know does Edinburgh tend to employ regularly, what is the current climate with job cuts. Are there any planned closures of offices in Edinburgh. Just trying to get a flavour for my chances, thanks

Just go to local delivery office and have a chat with the Dom and then he/she can arrange your transfer or tell you what is happening in Edinburgh as they will know which office need staff.

No you approach your present DOM and advise her/him that you are moving to Edinburgh giving your DOM a rough idea of your moving date and you wish to submit a transfer and to be kept informed of jobs that are available. Your currnt DOM should then make contact with Edinburgh and explore the vaccancies that may be available to you.

Don't know about you, but I would prefer to take the direct approach, and see the DOM of the office I wish to go to, first. If your current DOM then tries to bullsh!t you, and says there are no vacancies at such-and-such place, you will know he's trying to block the transfer.
Somebody I know, that worked in deliveries but came to our place for overtime, put in for a transfer, using the official channels. After eight weeks of hearing absolutely nothing, he circumvented the usual channels, and emailed the "ask Allan" address (this was a few years ago), explaining that the signing-in sheets at my office had a string of vacant duties, so why was the transfer process taking so long? He copied the email to both DOMs, so that they would know the matter had gone higher up. Within a week, he was on a duty at my office!

I take your point " Wandle" maybe the best approach is to make an enquiry at both ends which would highlight if there is any misinformation being given to " Calvert 73". The enquiry could also be put through the CWU reps at both ends to provide an alternative line of enquiry.

There is no planned office closures in and around Edinburgh at this present time?

Where are you moving from maybe able to get a swap?

And what offices are you think of moving too?

I do thanks you for all your replies, so can someone tell me who may have info in the area of Edinburgh, the offices at Falcon Rd West, Strathearn Rd, Gorgie Park or Russell Rd, are these small delivery offices, ie little chance of transfer opportunities, thanks

I,ve transferred to 3 different offices and the only way to get things moving is to visit the Do you would like to transfer to with a big bag of doughnuts for the Dom :-)
Seriously though the system does not work going through the proper procedures !

U have no chance at these offices, however edinburgh west
Delivery office, u have a great chance, as always looking for staff, i was at that office a few years ago, the office is located at south Gyle cresent, edinburgh eh12 9pb

thanks for your advice, had thought it may be hard to get into those offices, as they seem small in passing. Just they were the closest to where I would be living. Thanks for the contact ill try that one.
