Spring clean for Stanford-le-Hope delivery office makes way for a new World Class Mail area

It might not be spring, but that didn’t stop staff in the SS postcode sector giving the Stanford-le-Hope delivery office a thorough de-clutter.

Colleagues, including many from other sites who came to lend a hand, split into three groups tackling the office, the yard and the garage. They tagged every single item to be scrapped or reused/recycled, and chucked out the rest.

‘The WCM team for the SS sector is going to be based here, so it will be our flagship WCM site,’ says Craig Baylis, Workplace Organisation pillar lead.

‘There was a lot of old stuff around the place. We’ve either got to get it back into use, or bin it.’

Their garage housed an old Royal Mail van lovingly restored by John Tebbitt from the nearby Basildon office. But it was taking up space, so it’s being moved to the British Postal Museum and Archive store at Debden.

Instead, what was the garage will be home to a new mail training system area the team plans to build, and a trolley storage area. The bike sheds in the yard will go to create more space. And inside the office, it was all hands on deck to tidy up.

Postman Craig Gilby says: ‘I want to take pride in what I do and where I work.

‘I’ve been a postman for eight years. WCM is a very different way of working, but it’s opening my eyes. I’m keen to develop my career with the company and WCM seems an excellent way to go. It’s having a really good effect here.’
