Summary
Flooding of coastal areas is expected today and tomorrow. Gale force winds with large waves are expected on the coasts of north Wales and northwest England today (Thursday) and also east coast of England later on today (Thursday) and through Friday. These will combine with high tides and a large tidal surge in some areas. There is a high likelihood of severe coastal flooding impacts along parts of the Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex coastline, particularly Great Yarmouth, coloured red on the maps below. Typical impacts are likely to be danger to life, flooding affecting a significant number of properties and large scale evacuations. There is also a medium likelihood of significant coastal flooding impacts for all coastlines of the counties coloured amber on the maps below. Typical impacts may include flooding of properties and parts of communities, significant travel disruption, coastal erosion, local overtopping of flood defences. Today (Thursday) only, there is also a medium likelihood of minor flooding for coastal communities of north-west Wales and parts of Anglesey, as highlighted yellow on the maps below. There is also a very low likelihood of significant flooding disruption along the tidal lower reaches of the River Trent in Nottinghamshire today.
