Chances of being kept on???

So been in the game a couple of weeks now and got to say I don't mind the job ,apart from the dogs that want to bite my arse. My question is , what are the chances of getting my contract extended , got 3 month contract which is due to end
In February next year , are things seriously going to change in 2014 and will I be out the door once the busy period is over??

Nothing can be said with any certainty but from my experience its very unusual for a temporary contract not to be extended, in fact I would hazard a guess that most a made into permanent contracts between the 2nd and 4th years.


However, word of caution we have only just been privatised back in October, so we may be in a whole new boardgame come next year. However, the good news is that unless they bring in robots to do delivery its always going to a manpower intensive occupation.

Ive been in job a year now, and like you left a permanent job for this, still dont know anyone who has been let go.

Yea I been on the same duty , bit don't know if it's for 6 weeks , communication is not the best in RM regarding where u stand and training? Bit worrying really , done something wrong today but how was I suppose to know when no mangers tell me , RM do make me laugh. All fun and games.

As long you do the job and there is no major conflict with you and the bosses, you will be fine. But don't spend the money just in case.

Yeah think things get worse after the intial 6 weeks. What did you do wrong?

Wasn't told the frame is supposed to be clear on Saturdays so was leaving d2ds on the frame that didn't have post, I'm new and need to be trained properly but it jus seems there is no time to do anything with proper training. 1 day induction which didn't really teach me anything I didn't already no I.e don't put your hand in the letter box if there is a dog behind the door haha

i would hazard a guess that once you're in then you should be fine,
but,
don't expect a permanent contract, if you are on a low hour contract don't expect it to be upped pretty soon either because they know they'll save on holiday/sickness while you bang in the overtime
best bet is to chat to others and you'll get the idea if the office is generally understaffed or just a few off sick, they will know more than the management

i would hazard a guess that once you're in then you should be fine,
but,
don't expect a permanent contract, if you are on a low hour contract don't expect it to be upped pretty soon either because they know they'll save on holiday/sickness while you bang in the overtime

25 hour contract and haven't done a min over my time and haven't been asked to either...

If you're happy with that it's fine, most I know want more hours, and usually get them,
Whatever you do, don't let them take the pi55 and take you for granted,
Those who regularly work their day off inc myself get asked "why" if we don't!

I have worked in a small delivery office where most of the walks are rural and it was quite common that D2Ds were still in the frame from the previous week despite the rule to clear by Saturday.
