November 11th

Post by doorstepped »

after reading and commenting on a thread about funerals, I thought I would ask the following question.

at 11:00am on the 11th of November do you stop and have a 2 minutes silence?

I always have no matter where I am or what walk I am doing, even if no one can see me.

Men died for this country and allowed us to remain free from German Occupancy and two minutes to remember them is a small penance to pay.

Good post,If im truly honest,When im at home on this day I always respect the 2 minutes and spare a thought,I have on delivery also,But there have been times on delivery when I have missed it due to having my head down posting.
I don't lose any sleep over it though because I will always have the Ultimate respect for Past and Present Soldiers,I know Hero is banded around cheaply these days,But that is what they are,Plain and simple.

Everyone should give a little to those who have paid the ultimate price so that we can be free

Our Mail Centre always observes this - all the machines are switched off and the staff all stop. There's an announcement over the tannoy at the start and finish of the silence. We also have a service at the War Memorial in the courtyard on or about the 11th

2 people I know have died so its quite personal to me, one in Northern Ireland and one in Afghanistan.

My workplace do the 2 minutes silence. I do remember them during my 2 minutes and also those that made the ultimate sacrifice in WW1 and WW2 so we can speak English and be free.

I have participated in remembrance parades for 16 years as a member of the cadet forces.
As medical issues prevent me from serving, I feel taking that short time each year, and educating youngsters of it's importance, is the least I can do.

Cadet forces is a good way of giving something back to the community. I have a lot of respect for the cadets and their Instructors, some of the young people do make a significant contribution to the Army, as more of them go through basic than those straight off Civ Div.
