Winter lapsing.

Some of the lads at my office are a little miffed that they are still being asked to cover lapsed deliveries in November.
Personally I think it's great, if they want to come in 45 minutes early what do they expect !!
You'd think they would learn by now, but no . Lapsing ?? let the Muppets who are in early everyday do it.

I think I am due to go on lapsing next week....simple fact is I will not have time to do it due to the duty I will be on.....I shall inform my manager of this on Monday morning.

there is no such thing as lapsing - it's called overtime and only done if u want overtime.

Of course you cannot finish before your time though.

You'd be doing it as well in my office as lapsing is judged on traffic for the day, everyone does it or nobody does. There are exceptions with bulk postings etc.

Where it does make a difference is Christmas, my walk partner and I aren't slow but are often amongst the last out and cut off more than anyone else. All because we start dead on time and don't have the 'it's busy so I'll go in early' mentality.

I have spoken with the early starters and told them if they give an hour to RM they are welcome to lapse as they will be ready before the rest of us. You cannot work o/t unless you want to. I tell dom I will take out but return the extra if I do not have time. result I do not take it

what is lapsing?

Oh, you will soon learn about lapsing!, it`s when the DOM decides(using a bogus count of the days traffic) that you will have enough time to take your own round and then another loop/pouch full(sometimes two) from another duty that`s usually miles away from your own!, this usually happens in the Summer months around mid afternoon when the sun is at it`s hottest and you feel like a baked spud, but most Dom`s try to drag it out well into the winter months when you can`t even stand up because of the frost, ask us about the severe weather tool next!!..

as a rep I can read the IWT so it is up to the rep to look at it. also other factors, late mail, weather etc. I get fed up talking to moaners who go on about workload and do not take breaks and come in early. they are the ones who have the time to do any lapsing as I tell them the extra hours they work do not count in the scheme of things, while others work their hours and are not able to lapse. DOMs do try and bully.

We stopped lapsing when the schools went back in September due to increased workload - but when it was on everybody did a little. Now any areas that need covering are done on overtime and it works well - no failed walks, parcels up to date etc - but then we have very little absenteeism and holidays are sensibly planned.

as we are a small rural with 8 walks when we lapse it is 80 + calls what about other offices how many calls

call rate is irrelevant, 80 terraced houses can be done much quicker than 80 large houses with huge driveways. It will be more accurate to discuss how long lapsing takes
