Re: free Shares
We should get a letter soon confirming how many we get and info about online access. Personally I think we should have these by now but that's RM for you.zoo wrote:Yeah i know that thanks but when to we get our pin number so we can look and bring them up on laptop.
We will get an allocation now, some more in April 2014 and there's also the possibility of getting more over the course of time, so we don't really know for sure how many we'll have in 3 years time.zoo wrote:What i mean is do you get a letter stating how many you will recive in 3 years from now.

Re: free Shares
As RobertT says the first allocation has already been made (of 613 shares) and a second allocation will take place in April 2014 - start of the new tax year (112 shares).
It is not clear to me whether the requirement to hold the shares in the SIP for between 3 and 5 years from the date of the award also applies the second allocation - i.e. Do we need to hold the 112 shares until April 2017 or 2019 ? And what is the tax treatment of subsequent allocations ?

YES And what is the tax treatment of subsequent allocations ? The same HMRC rules apply to all 'free shares' allocations, in every SIP scheme, not just Royal Mail's scheme. They are treated as taxable income, until they pass the 5th anniversary of when they were allocated. So if, for example, we were to be issued more shares in April 2015, those would need to held until April 2020 to be sold without tax or NI being deducted

Re: free Shares
Thanks Wandle
Perhaps someone should tell The Sun that it will take us 5 and a half years to 'pocket all our shares' entirely free of tax and NI !

I agree that there is, as yet, no written proof and we have been shafted before - proof does not mean that we will eventually realise a promised benefit - ColleagueShares - all sorts of written promises written with invisible ink ...............

As has been mentioned many times now colleague shares were not real shares.
