Our union rep delivers parcels in his spare time, he once phoned in sick and the postie delivering to his house met him unloading his next batch into his garage. Shouldn't be surprised, he did cross our picket line during the last IA ( he wasn't union rep at the time, if that makes it any better ) Just one of several reasons why i won't be picketing again!!!

Correct, hardly puts him in a great bargaining position with the manager either. We've had a couple of others doing the same thing in recent years, i don't imagine my office is the only place where this happens though.

Amazon should be brought to book concerning their employee strategies.
They sound like a terrible company to work for.
Considering they are the biggest online retail company on the planet, and making billions of $$$, the way they treat and pay their employees is nothing short of shocking.

Sorry doubt that has happened, there's no way contracted hours have been reduced without permission, the cwu would be going ballistic in the national news if they were, probably been working 30h on 25h contract and just been pulled back down to 25h

I don't know the ins and outs of particular contracts, but I do know that the 20 hours folk have now reduced to 18 without consultation. They have a wanky rep anyway

never mind having a wanky rep its illegal to do that without proper notice, also they would be due a buy down payout for it. so its very unlikely they were even on a 20h contract

20 to 18 hours, that doesnt make sence even for Royal Mail.

I had a parcel delivered from Amazon in a plain white VW van a few months back and had an opportunity to have a quick chat with the driver. He told be he worked for Amazon (didn't say anything about being a sub-contractor or self employed) and that they would be extending their delivery network to cover other areas in time. He also said that he wanted a basic 8hr job but was being expected to work far longer than this and that his target had been just increased from 100 to 120 packets/day without any consultation. Very nice guy who clearly wanted to do a decent job but was, like many others, being taken advantage of.

The problem for RM employees is not a sudden reduction in their own T&Cs because that simply won't happen overnight, the issue is really the loss of business to companies who operate in this manner and the eventual affect on T&Cs as RM try to compete. There is urgent need for new legislation particularly on the 'self employed' loophole that bypasses the minimum wage.
