Repick was done today,lost my rural duty ive been on for ten years to a tit.And I am now reserve 1 in the office.Been shafted by non drivers and lead swinging atos tossers.How can this be allowed to happen.

sadly it does,,,and its allowed to happen,,,cant boast as many years as yourself but I have quite a few in and yeah,,,,,back to spare.

I'm on 13 years and also a leave reserve, but I try and look on the upsides... I spend approximately half my time covering the (cushy) rurals and Xmas is usually a doddle as I'm effectively spare and some days when there are no cut-offs and all pkts are taken I have very little to do!

"and by screwed by non drivers" - strange attitude blaming people who haven't got a licence - and not blaming the business who came up with the new way of working.

If it really got to you that much then perhaps coming up with a solution on how you can employ non drivers in vans on a reserve basis would be a better way of venting your frustration. I am not being sarcastic I am being honest, if you could come up with the idea and get it adopted by the CWU you would have a lot of support from the members to try and get it introduced.

Ok I hold my hands up about non drivers,but believe me when there was talk of a repick,people with minimal senority suddenly were all at atos's door,there the ones I mean not the genuine ones.Luckily I am the reserve for the rurals,peace brothers I was having a rant

Over 20 years service too me old cocker.....do not begrudge any of my work mates their duties or the fact they have less seniority than me.....I like being spare (as long as it is in my own office)..doing box counter one week...driver the other...foot deliveries the next....I have actually and very rarely been on a walk now for three weeks....(due to the guy whose duty it is being off long term sick)...and I am bored stiff.....seeing the same people every day. Doing the same thing....I know it's bad when folk start to know my name....yikes....get me on another duty please......I like a challenge.....can never imagine myself being on the same duty for 10/15/20 or even 35 years (as one old postie I knew did b4)...two weeks on the same and I get itchy feet..that is just me though...

how do you know they are not genuine?

what sort of issues were they having??

There is nothing wrong with his attitude,Because in our office we have the same sort of people.
Im sure he wont deny there are people who genuinely have Disabilities and should have picks of duties.
I work in an office of 75 and 28 Yes 28!! Are on the DDA.
Its a disgrace,Some of them are excused sorting,Or taking big parcels,Yet they are able to do these jobs on overtime when it suits them

I can more than understand the anger posted here.

Are we saying that a junior non-driver can pick before a more senior driver? If this is true, it seems unfair to me.

There is no reason why a reserve cannot be a non-driver...

All the reserve does is cover the duty (not necessarily drive) for someone else and in most cases the other pair will be able to drive. A reserve that can drive will be the ideal scenario as it will give the manager utmost flexibility but seniority is seniority when it come to picking.

In fact, a non-driver is the one that is at a disadvantage in that a non-driver cannot pair up with another non-driver that has already picked...
