Royal Mail Freedom of Information Requests

At the minute Royal Mail is obligated to answer Freedom of Information requests. Will this change if the company is privatised? Will they be able to deny information?

Looks like they have already started refusing.

Freedom of Information Act Request



I am writing in response to your email dated 16 October 2013. In an
earlier request for information (reference MTEE-9B9BSF) you asked for a
list of the grades used within Royal Mail; that information was provided
to you. You have now asked for ‘the number of staff employed for each
grade and an indicator of which Royal Mail Group company they belong to’.



Following the flotation of Royal Mail on the London Stock Exchange, it is
no longer subject to the Freedom of Information Act. Royal Mail was
previously subject to the Act because it was wholly owned by the
government. However, now that the government has sold some of its shares
in Royal Mail, this is no longer the case. Therefore, we are no longer
obliged to respond to requests for information under the terms of the Act.

headcount information for our businesses which may be of interest to you.
