The Government has announced that, to be eligible for Free Shares, employees must have been employed by Royal Mail on 10 July 2013 and still be employed on the date the company floats on the London Stock Exchange.

10 July 2013 is the date the Government made its Parliamentary Statement.

I think keeping them for three years before disposal absolves you of any tax liability on them - but as I expect them to be worthless by then - what's the point ?

Rhino so I presume you think these large private investors who could invest 100 millions of pounds will just be throwing there money away and basically don't know what they are doing. Fair call but I don't think they are that stupid!!

You would need to ask those investors how long they intend to hold the shares for

You will get a variety of shareholders who will try and make a quick return on there investment but trying to sell millions of pounds of shares is not always that easy unless they sell to other big investors and pension funds

As they are held in trust for you,if you leave the company before the three years are up,then the company holding the shares will sell them on and pay you whats left after tax and their fees have been taken off,just like they did when British Gas was sold off.
