Homes and businesses on the West Norfolk coastline could be receiving later postal deliveries under changes announced yesterday.

Royal Mail has announced plans to alter delivery rounds and methods in Hunstanton and the surrounding villages over the next few weeks.

Under the changes, residents and companies in the PE31 and PE36 post code areas could end up receiving their mail anytime during the day.

Postmen could be sharing vans or swapping bikes for a trolley to cope with parcels under the system.

And the company has also evaluated and re-drawn some of its routes in order to improve efficiency.

A spokeswoman said: “The way in which we communicate with each other has changed dramatically.

“Fewer letters are now posted every day and we need to organise its delivery routes to be as efficient as possible. We also deliver more larger items and so we are investing in new equipment to carry these items to customers even more securely.

“The new equipment also reduces the risk of injury to our postmen and women from carrying heavier mail bags.”

Richard Bird, a borough and county councillor for the resort, said: “We have experienced a wonderful service over the years. The operatives locally have enjoyed using bikes which I understand are being withdrawn. I hope they can maintain the service we have come to know. But the firm said it was not phasing out bikes but would assess their use on a “case by case” basis.”

This is news to a lot of employees. Maybe they should tell the postmen who work in the area before announcing it to the press.

It will only give them the chance to oppose it......
I think you have given RM too much credit, they never think anything through. Ever.
This is probably the result of an over zealous office employee, making the wrong announcement.
