Advice on transferring from DO to mail centre

Ive only been in the Royal Mail for 8 weeks,my brother works at the big mail centre in Leeds and he says they have a load of positions/duties that they are not filling,part time and full time basically sorting. I originally wanted to work at the mail centre but no jobs came about at the time I was applying.
Would I be eligible for a possible transfer or is it too soon as ive only been an employee for 2 months. How would I go about it?. Speaking to my manager he might not like it seeing as he would have one less staff or do I speak to the mail centre? advise please.

I would speak to the Mail Centre first - no point in upsetting your manager and then finding out that the MC aren't that desperate after all. Then you'd be stuck in your DO with a manager who's annoyed at you for wanting to cause him / her the hassle of having to recruit somebody else at short notice.

I think that I read on here somewhere that it's only when you've been employed for 6 months that you can transfer, but I'd double check if I were you; I could easily be wrong.
