coming in early
Why cant the union do more to stop this madness, its making working conditions harder for the workforce up and down the country. It also turns workers against each other and creates bad feeling, surely its wrong on health and safety grounds to be in an office an hour before your official start time with no first aiders around.I know this has been going on for years but surely its time for the union to do more and get it included in any new agreement ,when we finally get one.

Re: coming in early
Totally agree, units should be staffed in such a manner that only under extraordinary circumstances should staff need to work extra Hrs at either end of their attendance.
This practise has far wider ramifications as it artificially performance measures in certain units which then prompts RM management to set unfair targets on others. I have no problem with performance management for individuals, units, areas, functions but there are certain criteria that need to be fulfilled. Performance measures must be accurately measured (they are not !!), they should be set at a fair and achievable rate and they should be the same throughout the business (again they are not). Until these standards are met CWU (local and national) should refrain from agreements which incorporate any reference to workrate or performance standards until RM has put adequate control measures in place and appointed managers that understand them.

Re: coming in early
We've started new revision changes few month back ,and 90 percent ,,,,yes 90,! Are all starting before there time .the bosses are loving it ,know one knows what jobs are working etc its madness. The few who start at there time are beaten with a stick and pressurised ,harassed, because they want to finish on there time. This has got to stop not just my office but around the country ,,,

Delivery staff are set in their ways and will never change but you will keep talking about the same points.

Any suggestions.chickenwittle wrote:Why can't the union do more to stop this madness
The Union as an organisation cannot stop it unless you and your Union colleagues start applying peer pressure.
The Union is an organisation which people volunteer to join , and it cannot instruct anyone to do anything. There are not an employer they have no jurisdiction over members, no matter how naive or misguided they are. They can guide people, they can explain the pitfalls and consequences, they can even say "I told you so" really loudly when the mugs complain about lapsing, but they cannot physically stop people doing anything.

Nope they can only highlight such concerns to the staff and management. Its up to the business, local management in effect, to address those concerns and take action if they see fit.chickenwittle wrote:could nothing be done on health and safety grounds ?TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Any suggestions.chickenwittle wrote:Why can't the union do more to stop this madness

And the right wing boys are blatantly ripping us to pieces.. its shameful what goes on and as long as "im alright jack" is around nothing will change. As always I will continue to do the job correctly, cut off ..never go over... get looks of disgust ofF fellow workers and management all because i refuse to be sucked in the right wing lies we are fed daily ........... Re: coming in early
I like your style Arthur ! With unity amongst our colleagues these problems would never have arisen in the first place. Too many " I'm alright jacks " I'm afraid !! The result is we are making managements focus of screwing us into the ground far too easy with no fear of resistance. Our CWU leaders need to take up this challenge and show some support towards it's INTIMIDATED union members and provide solid guidance and advice on how to counter managements draconian measures !!arthur was right wrote:You ask what can the union do? ....Drink tea ...sit on their behinds ..be spineless... let the tory lead government [ROYAL MAIL]do whatever it wants... Re: coming in early
The ONLY way the Come In Early Crew will stop it,is if they are handed extra mail to deliver when they arrive back at the office early.
We have walks on Docket every day at our place, have the Managers, who are usually so obsessed with saving money, done what I have suggested above, have they funk?!

“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”

Re: coming in early
Times are a changing.People that come in early and dont take their breaks are suddenly finding that rather than goin for a fag and going home early are now given sorting to do thanks to a manager thats on the ball in our office
Its funny to watch them
