Can't you ask one of the blokes at work who have to work Tuesday that your do there shift and they can do yours Saturday. In my day on delivery Saturdays were always shorter than week days ..

If as part of arranging funeral then Special Leave A is applicable. If not then Unpaid or Annual Leave should be taken.

It makes my blood boil when I see posts like this. What a diabolical company we are working for. I can think of no other company who treats their employees like this.

As a few of you will know, I had bad news a month or so ago when my father in law died, and my pay was stopped etc etc anyways, his ashes are being scattered a week this saturday at 10:30am , the funeral guys only do these on saturday mornings, so it cant be changed.

My day off that week is Tuesday, so there`s no way on gods earth I can swop my day off. Im also on a HCT round, so breaking off for an hour isnt an option as im 2 miles away from the office, and cant leave my HCT unattended.

Any ideas ?

When was the funeral? What's the delay in scattering the ashes? Is it somewhere special?

my Father in law died a couple of weeks ago, my Dom was very good, gave me 3 days off with pay and then I took another week off unpaid special leave ( and got a tax rebate lol ) and then took a paid day off for the funeral.

a lot of it is down to your Dom, we have a pretty decent one atm but of course that could change anytime soon.

Sorry cant help but feel sorry as I have never worked In an office were your so called colleagues would not help out for such a reason .. Good luck and let us know your outcome

Im not surprised to say I asked about a week a saturday. Cant swop my day off, cant have a lieu day, cant leave my hct tied up, theyre understaffed (again), and they basically said I cant go

Jimmy you're entitled to a day off, giving the dom enough notice, either unpaid or taking a days annual leave. Tell the dom your intensions and put it in writing to them on a Special Leave form, also give a copy to your rep. If they refuse put in a grievance, and go anyway.
