Lost Special?

Just heard from a colleague at a nearby Office. One of their guys is in trouble with a Special Delivery. Apparently he signed for it himself (I know that's a BIG No No ) and posted it. God knows why perhaps he wanted to save himself some time Help out the customer etc. Problem is the customer is now saying he didn't receive his 500 Euros!

My question to you guys is...Has anyone recent experience of this type of cock up? We know RM is constantly moving the goal posts and what might have been a slap on the wrist can now be a sacking offense.

Yes, recently a postman who already had a serious for will full delay, did the exact same thing and just got an extension to the serious.

Thanks for your replies so far guys. I don't know the Postie personally but I understand he's an "Old n Bold"character who tends to please himself. Doorsteps everything and regularly signs for Everything himself.
Apparently never throws off Households and surprisingly enough never has any left over.

If you carry on like that in this present business environment you're bound to get tripped up eventually. management are looking for any excuse and I don't believe we should make it easy for them. Saying that should we be protecting the jobs of people who obviously don't give a damn about any operating procedures, or guidelines, when there's thousands of hard working, conscientious, Posties out there who are struggling to do the job properly!

Understand what you're saying Jimmy. Looks like you've upset someone, somewhere along the line! Strange how you can work for RM for years and be a "Good" Postie, then change offices (and Managers) and suddenly become a "Bad" Postie.

How come we've all suddenly become lazy and can't complete the job we've all been doing for years? Especially as "The Traffic Figures" tell us that we're all doing less work than we used to do!

Just goes to show that you can't trust customers, who ask you to do them a favour, they'll turn on you when it suits them. I always 739 them....don't give a s**t what the other Postie does. Walks prepped by others are always a nightmare, please prep them as you would your own....Yeah right, more like please prep them as fast as you can by just stuffing everything in however! What these people don't realise is that they're double prepping to protect their own Full Time jobs, because in a lot of cases they haven't got the Out Door Hours on their own duty to justify their Full Time Employment. They should have this explained to them Regularly!

May well be Gary. Think the guy's only just come off a 12 month warning (or if it's a 24 month warning he's still on it)! We'll have to wait and see. Unless he's got some incriminating photos of the Manager he may well be making his way to Job Centre Plus.

Depends on the manager/DOM but he could well get the sack for that, I don't think he would in my office but it would be a serious b*llocking.

I used to have a customer I'd delivered to for years, she asked me to sign for and post absolutely everything that would fit in the letterbox as she was only ever out when taking the kids to school and ran her own business from home. I did it for years, specials and everything.

Nothing ever came of it, she was genuine but Christ I'd never do that now. I don't even deliver to neighbours now as I don't trust most of the scrubbers I deliver to!

It's really bad that it's money....It shouldn't make a difference if you believe a special is a special but it will.
Cautionary note...customers are people not saints.
Trust them at your peril.

Brilliant money making operation........you notice your postie delivers special deliveries without getting a signature. Order 500 euros and double your holiday money.

I'd be surprised if many managers could keep that one within their own hands,i'd be expecting a few uncomfortable interviews if i was him. Don't like to see anyone lose their job but ffs,i wouldn't sleep at night if i was delivering mail like that. If he does get the bullet,hopefully his job will be filled by someone with a better attitude and whose willing to do the job properly.

To be fair we have people in our office who have signed for specials that went walkabouts and they still have their job. Somebody who lost at least 4 specials has now been made up to a dom, beggars belief.

Couldnt agree more. That same dom was suspended for damaging a customers property and setting fire to collection mail, not gross misconduct though........
