Booking annual leave before folders come out.

I would like to book flights to Orlando for our big family holiday next may 2014 now as the flights are getting booked up and going up in price. Does anyone know if you can book holiday before the folders come out and have it honoured by the managers. I have asked my manager and he said he didn't think it would be a problem to have the weeks off I wanted but I needed to put it in writing so they can work it out. I did this a week ago and they still have not looked at who will be in each group, so I am waiting for who knows how long. I really need to book otherwise my wife and kids will be going without me. Any help or suggestions appreciated.

I had the same issue last year for this years holiday to USA. You manager has said it shouldn't be problem and put it into writing which you have done. Copy your CWU rep in on the correspondence, book your flights enjoy your holiday. Exactly what I did. Obviously only bother copying your CWU rep in, if you're a paid up colleague, otherwise it'll be his word against yours if it all goes wrong
