A sixth a day

We are being "forced" to deliver a sixth of our D2D's per day because it's the national agreement.

We are used to throwing them off on Monday and taking them where we're going thus getting rid of the majority on the two lighter days of the week. I much prefer doing it like that and feel put on being forced to do it "their way".

Is anyone else forced to go to houses where they have no mail just to appease them?

For ease of reference the BT 2010 Agreement states the following:

“Whilst the planned workload will be spread across the 6 days, delivery employees will have the ability to manage the delivery of the items themselves on the proviso that all items are delivered within the week and the delivery specification is not affected”.
Any proposals or edicts to impose changes to a unit’s preferred method of delivering D2D providing the preferred method is compliant with the National Agreement should be dealt with via the Industrial Relations Framework."

We've been told today not to leave any d to ds in frame at all, was better when we cud leave if any,doors were not goin to for another day . So what they are telling us is wrong ?..

The point about doing 1/6th per day is/was to help maintain jobs, and to reduce the amount of lapsing/absorption that you have to do. The other point is that if you prep all of them on a Monday and then go off sick on the Tuesday someone will be taking over the walk who may not know it and is presented with a frame full of D2ds to deliver (apart from what you have done on the Monday). It is far less stressful to prep 1/6th a day and deliver them. It helps to make up your time each day especially on the lighter days, and if you get back early, nothing stopping you prepping up the next days. Doing it this way, your cover duty will also do his/her share of the D2ds on your day off. I find it far better to start with a clean frame each day rather than having to mess about looking to see whether you have other mail to deliver when you are bundling up. There again, each to their own.

There is no simpler way of doing them than having them in a slot and taking them where you are going that day. After Monday is done around 80% will have been delivered anyhow.

Don't you think that this will preserve full- time jobs long term, while on one hand you feel you you are forced to deliver to 1/6th of your D2D to the houses you attend on a daily basis on the other you are saying you want only to deliver to what you want too?? Put it this way if you have been thru Methods you can deliver all your D2D in one day (exception) but why would the company pay you to do 1/6 per day over 6 days ie 15 mins per day if you do them all in 1 or2 days, and if so could they not claim that time back, this is a caviet warning of what could happen

It's more to do with the fact that we have to deliver them where we aren't going. I'd be happy to throw off a sixth a day if I could take them where I was going.

What happens to the spare time you have on Saturday if you have completed your D2D by Friday

If you did 1/6th per day and taking your scenario you deliver to 80% of that 1/6th, then in fact to deliver the other 20% where there is no other mail, surely takes up very little of your time, and the majority you probably walk straight pass anyway. I can understand not wanting to deliver d2d down some long drives or difficult drops, but on estates it takes diddly squat time at all.

Which sums it up. Having to go down a long drive when you have no mail is a waste of time.

D2D are part of the mail that we deliver - even the CWU agree that they are important; so they should be treated the same way... So what if you go down a long drive with d2d?

what is the difference with proper 'addressed' junk mail. Say you have a mailshot (addressed) from virgin, sky or BT, Everest Windows, Direct Line etc and an equivalent (sometimes similar) d2ds?

We deliver a lot of rubbish one way or the other - as long as we get paid and we do it in our time, what is the problem?

As a floater/reserve, most posties I cover do not do most of the d2ds on lighter days like monday and tuesday; in fact, on a busy wednesday, I find myself delivering more than 1/6th (most of my 1/6th and many others left from mon and tuesday).

what is the different with proper 'addressed' junk mail.

They don't have to be delivered until Saturday.

In our office they have to be cleared by Saturday, if you want to take 6 days or do them all on Monday its entirely up to us
