Delivery routes to change - Bedford

Royal Mail has announced it is making changes to the way it delivers mail in the Ampthill area over the next few weeks.

From this week postmen and women will use new delivery methods and adopt revised delivery routes as these changes are introduced on a phased basis.

It is now writing to every address in Ampthill about these changes and this includes households, businesses and other organisations.

Royal Mail says the changes mean it will continue to deliver in the morning and for a longer period during the day and many customers will continue to get their mail by lunchtime.

The time customers receive mail will depend on where they live on the new delivery route. This may be later or possibly earlier than current delivery times.

When mail volumes vary delivery arrangements and times may need to be adjusted.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “The way in which we communicate with each other has changed dramatically.

“Unfortunately, fewer letters are now posted every day and Royal Mail needs to organise its delivery routes to be as efficient as possible.

“We also deliver more larger items and so we are investing in new equipment to carry these items to customers even more securely.

“The new equipment also reduces the risk of injury to our postmen and women from carrying heavier mail bags.

“These changes will require a period of adjustment for staff. However, Royal Mail will be doing everything possible to maintain a high level of service and thanks customers for their understanding.”

Time they changed the record. Have they not been saying now that we are approaching privatisation, that the fall off of mail is beginning to diminish and that in a few years time mail volumes will have stabilised. I wonder why that is. Is it because they are at last trying to flog something. If there sales people had been pro=active in the sales field over the last ten years, perhaps they would not have lost all the contracts they have lost, and perhaps gained more work. But then for that you need a team of leaders that are forward thinking rather than the current bunch who,s only thought is to cut jobs, cut pay, cut pensions, and pay themselves huge bonuses.
