Hi all has anyone got anything on the above subject our plank of a dom seems to think this doe's not apply to him, But from what I understand there is a lot that our rep should be involved in is there a document anywhere that lists what the rep should be involved in, This dom of ours is on a power trip we just need something to stop him in his tracks anyone got any ideas

our rep has an S I meeting with the d.o.m once a week,,,,seems to be ok by us,,,they discus traffic levels,,,and staffing,,,and any issues we have

STRATEGIC INVOLVEMENT
Probably the most abused section of the IR Framework agreement.
This is what Lord Sawyer had to say about Strategic Involvement in Royal Mail.

Section 8 of the Industrial Relations Framework commits Royal Mail and the CWU to engage in a full consultation process about issues affecting the future of the business described as “Strategic Involvement”.

It contains an explicit recognition of the importance of “regular, timely and effective”
consultation between Royal Mail and the CWU at all decision-making levels.
It acknowledges that this will, among other things, “increase commitment to the success of Royal Mail”; “enable Royal Mail, its Unions and its employees to meet changing customer requirements speedily and effectively”; make the implementation of change “smoother”; and encourage a more constructive relationship between Royal Mail and the Unions.

It emphasises that such consultation requires “real commitment in terms of time, resource and behaviours”. There then follows an outline procedure for regular consultative meetings at national, divisional, Area and unit levels. This part of the IR Framework says all the right things and although the procedure which it sets out is fairly skeletal it would be entirely adequate to ensure good and effective consultation given the will on both sides.

Unfortunately the evidence which we have heard is that implementation has been exceedingly patchy. CWU attendance at national Strategic Involvement meetings has been irregular. At Area and unit level meetings have occurred, and been effective, where both parties had the necessary will.

Elsewhere, they have lapsed or been purely formulaic, with managers using the meetings not as an opportunity for real dialogue but simply telling union representatives what they intend to do.

If anything it's worse now,especially at unit level than it has ever been.

Isn't that why you go to disagreement?

Doms don't want a weekly meeting with the rep as they prefer to manage an office on a day to day basis, even hour to hour basis rather than plan ahead which would make it slightly easier. My theory is from the doms I have seen they can't manage their own dinner let alone the office and a weekly meeting with the rep would show them up.
