Filling out P739 cards before going out on delivery

Anybody else know of people filling out P739 cards before going out on delivery? I see some of the early starters/runners doing it.

A P739 should be completed at the doorstep following correct procedures, not at the fitting prior to delivery. If this adds a few minutes onto your delivery so be it. You are following procedure and you are doing the job properly.

I always turn a letter around to mark packets. Some people write a P on the letter. Others insert a blank P739 into the slot for the address with a packet.

But yes. I've seen quite a few people write up their P739's before they leave. I guess it might save a bit of time when your out there but you're meant to wait after you've rang/knocked on the door anyway. At that point if I can't hear anything moving I start prepping the P739. Just put in details like date and time and return within 24 hours etc... Something I can reuse if they come to the door.

The other day. I banged on the door hard at least 4 times. Completely filled out the P739 and posted it. Started to walk away and some stoner come out in wearing just underpants and asked me for the parcel. This was at 1 in the afternoon

Only every now and then if we are waiting for the last mech to come in and iam leg swinging. Its normally one or two addresses which i know wont be in. I still take the parcel out with me of course

Some people have appalling handwriting and trying to write them out "on the hoof" is virtually impossible for them, so they do it before they go out so they are at least legible. Apparently.

Is it against RM rules to do this ? If so please inform us. If we have time to do it what is the problem ?

Waste of time to me. We have one guy who writes all the door numbers on his D2DS. For fck sake!

How sad.
I didn't even do this in the old days of job & finish.
I would need to fill out at least 50-60 a day and might only use 10-15.
To me that's a complete waste of time unless the real intention is to bump and run in which case these guys are braindead.

To me it is just a waste of time and a waste of P739 cards. What I tend to observe is that when some of the early birds are paired with staff who start at the correct time they get agitated that they can't bolt out of the office at the earliest opportunity as they have to wait for their partners. So they start filling out these cards in a panic because they are going to be "late" out.

Here's a solution. Why not everybody just come in at the correct time they are supposed to? Simple really.

Fair point. I could see how that could happen. Personally I just turn the letter for the address with a packet or the one nearest it if there is no mail for that address. I also try to put the packets in reverse order of delivery in the pouches and then when I take the first packet out I can see where the next packet is for. It works for me.

Wow, I regularly 739 4 in a single bag. One day last week we took back 23 739'd packets, 17 of those were from my loops. And yes, I knock for every one! The only 739 cards I ever write out beforehand are those for the houses that get stuff every day and are never in, and only then if I have spare time in the morning.
