Tnt are currently delivering leaflets in Prestwick (South Ayrshire) in a attempt to recruit postmen locally ..... this is a worrying scenario if they (Tnt) are local to provide postal delivery service in my area which includes Alloway, Doonfoot, Ayr, Prestwick, monkton, Troon and Barassie roughly just over a 100,000 people in a small strip along the west coast if they (Tnt) are looking to roll out a delivery service in my area then they must be looking to roll out uk wide in the near future in all the cities and big towns ... I honestly did not expect this situation for another 3 - 5 years .... the only areas unaffected will be rural deliveries

we must be up for the fight. privatisation is not a done deal. tory mp's are getting edgy with their constituents realising the service will go to pot, and if millaband doesn't support us he's going to lose one hell of a lot of donations. its time to front up and take on these self serving greedy t####rs.

The unions day will only be numbered if we, the posties they represent, don't support them.
As long as we stay with them, and stay strong and stick with each other, the CWU will survive, and will continue to fight.
We need to forget about past failures, and concentrate on what is important now. Fighting for the company to stay under Government ownership, and for our jobs, pay and conditions.
Things will change, it's inevitable, but we can slow that change and minimise its effects on us if we remain resolute and show solidarity.

I can't say I blame the scots for wanting to get away from a tory voting England, but it's going to leave us poor sod's down south lumbered with right wing parties without the block vote of proper labour mp's from Scotland.

Scottish MPs have NEVER turned what would have been a Conservative government into a Labour one, or indeed vice versa.

- on only TWO occasions, the most recent of them being 38 years ago, (1964 and the second of the two 1974 elections), have Scottish MPs given Labour a majority they wouldn’t have had from England/Wales/NI alone. The majorities in question were incredibly fragile ones of four and three MPs respectively – the 1964 Labour government lasted barely 18 months, and the 1974 one had to be propped up by the Lib-Lab Pact through 1977-78 so in practice barely qualified as a majority. Without Scottish MPs but with Liberal support, Wilson would have had a majority of 12.

- and on ONE occasion (2010) the presence of Scottish MPs has deprived the Conservatives of an outright majority, although the Conservatives ended up in control of the government anyway in coalition with the Lib Dems.

- which means that for 62 of the last 67 years, Scottish MPs as an entity have had no practical influence over the composition of the UK government. From a high of 72 MPs in 1983, Scotland’s representation will by 2015 have decreased to 52, substantially reducing any future possibility of affecting a change.

The fact is that England and the rest of the UK are and always have been perfectly capable of electing a Labour government if they want one, even if Scotland goes its own way. Indeed, there’s a strong argument from the left-wing perspective that, with the SNP significantly less right-wing than any of the Westminster parties, a social-democratic Scotland could serve as an example to voters south of the border that there’s a viable alternative to the neoliberal creed of the three London-based parties.

But either way, the truth is that Labour doesn’t need Scottish MPs, and an independent Scotland would NOT give the Tories a permanent majority in the remnant UK. Those are the facts, and voters should be deeply mistrustful of anyone who tells them anything else.

I wish you well fishtank, the moral and intellectual support of left minded politicians from north of hadrians wall has in my opinion added to the advancement of all people in these islands, but if Scotland has had enough of mismanagement from London, who can blame them for going their own way? its a hell of a step though, and ive always considered myself british rather than English, so will be sad to see the break up of the union.

I think we'll struggle to get the public on our side in any forthcoming ani-privatisation battle, thanks to the recent stamp and parcel price hikes. I've had a few snide remarks in recent weeks from members of the public along the lines of 'hah, you'll be privatised soon enough'. They don't seem to understand for what they are wishing.

The people I talk to blame the management and not us...............of course I've spent the last 5 years telling them about how bad they are and what would happen in privitisation

It would be interesting to see if they will go for Royal Mail employees for postal work ie pay more money than Royal Mail for the know how and experience.
