It's about 'Outsourcing', but quite a lot of the things in tprogram could happen to us after privatisation.
This was on R4 at 1100 (30 minutes), it was a repeat from January this year, some of the things these private companies do to ex public services are a bit scarey, and quite disgusting really.

I listen to Radio4 on my round too! It was a worrying look at privatization. It just goes to show, you think RM cares little about its employees now, you haven't seen anything yet!

It will happen, private enterprise can only make money by reducing the bottom line (which is us), which is why I'm sticking with the union, the only real power we have.

Do you really think the union have a chance of stopping privatisation?

HQ really need to be targeting the public, us as employees/members are not going to have much impact even though a lot of us are passing that message on to the customers when they ask.Hitcher wrote:Do you really think the union have a chance of stopping privatisation?

If it ends up as an IPO which looks increasingly likely then TUPE(the law) won't apply because it won't be a new company..steven100 wrote:New companies have to honour 1 year on. Not sure if its law.
Having said that contractually you won't technically be in a different position to the one you're in now.
What will change is the whole mindset of the company,it's possible to have changes in your contact forced on you now but it's less painful for all to negotiate those changes through the union.
Will that still be the case after privatisation?
The business says yes but do you believe them?
One thing is for sure, privatisation and employee shares will weaken the CWU and a weaker union means poorer terms and conditions, that's a fact.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Which is why we all need to be behind the union from now until the end of the process. No one knows how the investment will happen but who will buy into a business if the membership strongly back their union to keep terms/conditions as they are and will not shirk at action if need be.fishtank wrote:If it ends up as an IPO which looks increasingly likely then TUPE(the law) won't apply because it won't be a new company..steven100 wrote:New companies have to honour 1 year on.
