Holidays

Post by Jambomatt1874 »

Whats the holiday situation like around the country? Our office has an average of 3 weeks being carried over i personally have 7 weeks! which i cant get, and look unlikely to get.The union say a maximum of 5 days can be carried over but if management say theres nothing they can do about it whats the answer. Theres also a strong rumour that these will be written off by royal mail. Thoughts?

pretty similar here, I tried to book a day off for a hospital appointment next week which was short notice I accept, but was out of my control. However no-one is off in our office and an office member said he would do it on ot. I said this to manager and I am still waiting for him to get back to me, busy doing something else was his exact response.

If you've found someone to cover your round then there shouldn't be an issue should there? Its never been a prob at my office.
Shouldn't a hospital appointment go down as special leave or something and not come out of holidays tho??
Just say NO ....to the new agreement.

Blimey, if I tried to suggest something like that it would blow the poor fella's fragile little mind. I am owed a days holiday from bank holiday falling on rest day a couple of weeks ago, so thought this would be a simple solution. The bloke in my office does not want to swap days off as it is next Tuesday and means he is cutting short what would be a 3 day break for him, but is willing to do it on ot, as I have loads of holiday. The SPDO where I am based, has not had a manager visit for well over six months and that was only because it was a return to work interview. Not that I am complaining about that, I am just trying to convey how difficult it is trying to get an answer form someone you only speak to on the phone when they want to answer it and when they are not in a meeting or to busy!!!!

In my office, or at least my manager, WILL NOT allow anyone to carry over more than 5 days. If we haven't booked the leave, the boss gives us a deadline by which to book the outstanding leave, leaving 5 days to carry over, and if we haven't booked it, they fill in any gaps in the plan and make us take it when possible.

What managers don't realise is, denying you leave now, just creates a bigger problem for the next financial year.

The law also states that you are entitled to a MINIMUM of 28 days leave a year. That is the 8 Bank Holidays, and 4 weeks. If you are being denied this, RM could be landed in quite serious trouble if it were brought to the attention of the relevant persons.

I'd start taking action, even emailing Moya about it, though I'd warn that you wouldn't be popular with managers. So it would be best if you weren't on your own in this, but had support and actions from colleagues.
