Managers jumping ship

In my office no less than 3 managers, each with 20+ years of being a manager are requesting they be allowed to become postmen again! It seems they have had enough. Personally I wouldn't let them. They would put people's noses out if they jumped ahead of them in the seniority list. Anyone else's managers can't take any more, bless 'em?

In about a decade and a half, I've seen a handful of acting managers voluntarily go back to being OPGs. They usually got along with the staff and were burned out by office politics.

I've never heard of a "real" manager going back to the ranks. Maybe they've heard something?

Would their pay be protected?
I doubt it if it's a voluntary thing.
Would many people be able to drop £7-10k just because they were pissed off?
Also wouldn't they have to go through the transfer process like anyone else?

Funny this. I was having a chat with our DOM a couple of weeks ago about whether Managers go back to being posties.

His reply was they used to but senior management have now put a stop on this. Once a manager always a manager, or sling yer hook!
