Taking a van home.........again

Ok I can't find much info on this BUT.........

If you take a van home who is responsible if the van is vandalised i.e mirrors smashed off or any kind of chargable damage.

Do RM pay out of their insurance or are you charged for damage outside your house??
Also if you have a 'crime number' does this cover your back in case of a charge for damage?

no you can not 'just take you'r van home' there is a 18 page assessment form to be filled in by you your DOM and your DSM ..... mileage from home to work must be recorded and you can only park it in the designated area at your home.....have an accident without getting the correct permissions and you could be classed as having no insurance...

don't do it......and if your DIM says "just take it home" point out that he is incorrect

I think it is a massive grey area. They are taken home in my office, but staff have to be approved. There are X amount available, the staff are 'vetted', only the staff approved take them home, and they are regulars, it is always the same staff, there is a list and if you're not on it you can't take it home. And no one new can get on the list. They have to sign it out and back, which is fair enough. They have been warned that if they fail to follow the rules they will be held responsible for damages, though they don't have control either way.

most things in royal fail are grey areas.
if they were in black and white then we would understand what was expected of us and they would be less chance of disciplinary action against us.

The thought that went into this mad idea ,a small DO with say 40-50 economical cycles.and no where near the space needed for 20-25 vans no brainer 1 parking bay will take at least 8 cycles simple maths but lets face it Royal Mail has never been good with figures
