People could face later post delivery times

FAMILIES in and around Wincanton and Castle Cary may face a longer wait for their daily post to be delivered.

Royal Mail has announced changes to its delivery service in Wincanton and Castle Cary as part of the company's modernisation initiative.

Customers could see the time they usually receive letters and parcels pushed back due to revised delivery routes.

The new routes came into force on Tuesday, April 2, and may see some residents have to wait for their mail to be delivered until the afternoon.

The time residents receive mail will depend on where they live on the new delivery route.

Graeme Tyers, collections and delivery sector manager, said: "We are proud of the high regard in which our postmen and women are held in Wincanton and Castle Cary.

"The changes to delivery routes will mean that a member of our local and experienced team will still be delivering to our customers in and around Wincanton.

"The local delivery team and I are fully committed to providing a high quality of service that is as reliable and friendly as customers have come to expect from Royal Mail in the Wincanton area over many years."

Royal Mail claim fewer letters are now posted every day, so the changes will help ensure delivery routes are "as efficient as possible".

The company also said it now delivers larger items and is investing in new equipment to carry these items to customers more securely.

Many households in Wincanton and Castle Cary will continue to receive their mail in the morning – but Royal Mail confirmed delivery times could change depending on its mail volume each day.

Mail will continue to be delivered six days a week.

Letters have been sent to residents, businesses and other organisations in Wincanton and Castle Cary outlining the changes.
