25 hour contract on P&L
Going 'live' soon on P&L, and approximately 1/5 of the office are 25 hour contracts.Been told that none of us are having our contracts increased and we will come in everyday to a bagged up walk!!!!!!!!!!! yeah right! Surely we should have our contracts increased slightly like other neighbouring offices?

Re: 25 hour contract on P&L
You must all stick together and not come in early, then book every hour that you work or cut off when your time is up,I know this won't help when you are sick or on holiday but it is the best way to get thing's altered.Good luck and don't weaken.travisbickle wrote:Going 'live' soon on P&L, and approximately 1/5 of the office are 25 hour contracts.Been told that none of us are having our contracts increased and we will come in everyday to a bagged up walk!!!!!!!!!!! yeah right! Re: 25 hour contract on P&L
We are still Pre-revision but we have been faced with the threat/promise that we would walk in to bagged up walks over the years. It normally lasts a day or two and the useless twats can't make it work. why they can't manage to bully, cheat, cajole etc MORE work out of the F/T who're prepping I'll never know
but I haven't once walked in to a bagged up walk. 1st they didnt have time to bag it, then no time for bundling, then no time for sorting the packets anon anon.
Obviously whoever's fully prepping the 25 hour guys walks will feel the need to cut as many corners as possible so they can get out on time, so nowt is back to backed, no indication of a parcel on the envelopes, 2 eight inch thick bundles per bag and no adjustment for the vagaries of the flow of the frame.
Come the revolution......

in nearly two years I've not once come in to even a half prepped frame because the FT doesn't have time,Sidley wrote: I haven't once walked in to a bagged up walk. 1st they didnt have time to bag it, then no time for bundling, then no time for sorting the packets anon anon.

Bare in mind that we're still using bikes, the FTers prepping our frames are usually the very same drivers who are responsible for taking out those bags
I'm coming to believe there must be 30 minutes built in to their duty not for prepping PTers frames, but bitching and moaning about our bags not being ready

Re: 25 hour contract on P&L
I've been on a 25 hour P&L contract for 4 weeks now...
From day 2 I have been on a HCT round, and doing at least 35 hours a week paid, in fact 44 last week
I have now been told to stick to my time... lol OK I said.
I have also been doing a lapsed round?? if thats what's it's called (part of another round). Sorting the frame including D2D, kill offs and redirects.
Well this will all stop Monday, just come in bundle up and do my round.
Can't wait

make sure you work at a average reasonable pace, no flying around. don't forget you're in effect doing a full time walk (or was) but you only will receive 2/3rds holiday pay and any sickness, not fair really.Twitch wrote:I've been on a 25 hour P&L contract for 4 weeks now...

The absolute best you can hope for is to come into a completely prepped frame (redirections included) I say this as a full timer that often preps duties (with 2 d2ds) for a 25h part timer coming in, there will always be an element of inside work as its virtually impossible to tie up two duties on anything but the most exceptionally light Tuesday.
Only once have I managed to bag up a duty for a 25h contract and that was because I skipped 30 minutes on the IPS and it was an abnormally light day.

Re: 25 hour contract on P&L
Well went in spoke to the lino, and he said you just need to do the redirects bundle up and go, I was happy with that as I do the round a bit different than set out on the frame.motch wrote: make sure you work at a average reasonable pace, no flying around. don't forget you're in effect doing a full time walk (or was) but you only will receive 2/3rds holiday pay and any sickness, not fair really.
Then I noticed none of the D2D's had been put on the frame
I heard the lino speak... no shout at another 25hr PT, saying he shoulld have put the todays in at least...
Now am I not right in thinking as we part timers only get a little bit of the D2D payment, we should only need to deliver these ???
Anyhows I didn't as had already asked the lino what needed doing..
And finished amazingly on time with my 20 min break taken b

Yes - your not right.Twitch wrote:Now am I not right in thinking as we part timers only get a little bit of the D2D payment, we should only need to deliver these ???
The delivery supplement is based on hours worked not D2Ds delivered or sorted. There is no payment specific to D2Ds.
As to prepping the D2Ds it would come under reasonable request and as long as you (or they) have time within the working day to complete the task its better to do it. If you don't then advise the manager and let them make the decision on what you should or shouldn't be doing.

I know this has been covered elswhere but I, and many others it seems, still don't understand it. If the delivery supplement replaced individual payment for delivery of d2d or 'households' why do people not directly involved in the delivery of such items get paid the delivery supplement. Even more importantly perhaps, why is the payment based on hours worked when part timers DELIVER exactly the same amount of items as full timers on park and loop duties. A part timer on an 18 hour contract is being paid a fraction of not only what his/her full time partner is being paid but is getting the same fraction of what someone who never goes near a letter box is getting paid.
As far as I can tell it's because it was put to a vote. Everyone voted, even those who don't deliver. I wouldn't mind betting that the number of part timers that got to vote was relatively small compared to those who work behind the scenes and were voting for an effort free pay rise.
What IS the definition of Delivery Supplement? It sounds like it should be obvious, but obviously it's not!

The delivery supplement has nothing to do with d2d, it was just implemented at the same time as RM stopped paying for delivery of d2d, and the d2d were bought into the workload. It is a supplement for people who do deliveries, based on hours worked. People not in deliveries get a lower diferent supplement .

Officially the Delivery Supplement was not a replacement for D2D payments. If was meant to be nothing more than recognition of the special conditions found on deliveries.Mighty Hunter wrote:TBT Said

Because the DS is not just for D2D work, its for all Delivery work (IPS, prepping, Driving, collection Hub, locker, callers office - basically any work based on or from a DO)Mighty Hunter wrote:Even more importantly perhaps, why is the payment based on hours worked when part timers DELIVER exactly the same amount of items as full timers on park and loop duties.
I can see what you are saying, and in fact I think the qualifying circumstances are a little broad, but that's another discussion. However, no matter what job you do in deliveries you are getting the same "hourly" rate of the supplement - even if you do overtime up to 39 hours.Mighty Hunter wrote:A part timer on an 18 hour contract is being paid a fraction of not only what his/her full time partner is being paid but is getting the same fraction of what someone who never goes near a letter box is getting paid.
voting results here http://www.cwu.org/assets/_files/docume ... sforma.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; 21,000 Voted No - 42,000 voted yes but worst of all 53,000 didn't vote at all. As there were at the time 75,000 in deliveries although not all CWU members it would be difficult for all Indoor members to overwhelm all posties who deliver, even if all in MCs and DOs voted together.Mighty Hunter wrote:As far as I can tell it's because it was put to a vote. No - I would guess in a DO there would be less than 10 people in an average DO who exclusively work inside. At my office about 50% are Part timers so they easily overwhelm the insiders, I would expect the same for most but the smallest offices.Mighty Hunter wrote: I wouldn't mind betting that the number of part timers that got to vote was relatively small compared to those who work behind the scenes and were voting for an effort free pay rise.

This is payable to all delivery office employees directly tagged to and working in the delivery function. The supplement will increase in value as agreed in basic pay rises. It will flow through in 2011 and 2012. It will be paid 52 weeks a year at the rate of £20.60 per week, pro rata for part time employees and applies to new entrants.

Re: 25 hour contract on P&L
Great post TBT, some work has gone into that and I for one appreciate it. However I have to disagree with this statement
From the tranformation document page 21
I think my point still stands (apologies for the thread drift though). The point is this and I didn't make it clearly before. The DS should not be paid on a pro rata contracted hours basis it should be paid on a pro rata hours worked basis. If a person on a 25 hour contract works 35 hours he/she should get £18.55 that week not £13.25 as is the case now (give or take a few pence).
Simply put, I think the DS should be an hourly rate, not a weekly one. Does that not sound fair?
I beg to differ:Officially the Delivery Supplement was not a replacement for D2D payments. If was meant to be nothing more than recognition of the special conditions found on deliveries.
From the tranformation document page 21
Might be a matter of semantics but that sentence states that D2D monies were turned into the DS. There is therefore a direct correlation between D2D deliveries and the DS.To coincide with the introduction of the national agreement unit payments will cease and
the 3 items per week cap will be removed. D2D Monies will be turned into a delivery supplement paid 52 weeks a year for all delivery employees (OPG and ORR) pro rata for part time employees.

They do,a part timer will get the full DS if he/she works up to 39 hrs.If a person on a 25 hour contract works 35 hours he/she should get £18.55 that week not £13.25 as is the case now (give or take a few pence).
It has always been that way apparently.
Their hourly rate over their contract hrs is higher to compensate, and i'm not talking about the higher rate because of the 39hr week.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
