phil1966 is right - if you want a new car you are better off leaning on a salesman in a dealership, get a cheap loan from your bank (one that you can afford!) gives you a bit of leverage over price and extras.

No it doesn't
I was a car salesman for 6 years.
Why on gods sweet earth, would stopping a garage getting commision on finance sales give you any leverage
When it comes to profit revenue in cars, as a salesman, you have two pots of money.
1) The money that you have in the sale price of the car.
2) The commission from the finance companies.
A sales manager will take some of the money in the sale price and discount the car.
If the customer takes finance out there is another pot of money to play with, upwards of £500.
So customer "A" walks in " I want your best deal BLAH BLAH BLAH..... Non of that finance malarky..... I have a loan"
The sales manager has only got one pot of money to use to discount the car.
Customer "B" walks in and wants the same deal but on finance..... now the sales manager has two pots to play with and if the customer "B" is savvy will get a deal £500 better than customer "A". Some companies offer £1000 Finance deposit allowance (therefore another£1000 off the car)
Customer "B" then takes a bank loan and settles the finance off after the first payment is made. He doesnt pay any of the interest involved in the finance because it is HP not a loan and therefore interest is worked out differently.
