New sickness procedure?

Post by Sidley »

Had a certain sector manager in the d.o. today, interviewing people who are off sick.
1 who had refused to come in on light duties was persuaded to return after being told he'd be put back to part time from temp f/t. Whether this was just for the duration of his sick leave I was unable to find out.

Is this visit usual?

No.
As a rep i wouldn't allow a member to go into a sick absence meeting with a DSM,there is no justification for it..
The DSM is not your manager, the DSM is your manager's manager.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Really and how would you stop it?
Ours DSM comes in and does this quite often. :confused
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

Does the DSM have nothing better to do with his time?
Does he not trust his own manager to conduct the meetings properly?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The same way you stop any unagreed process/procedure.
First you say no and if they insist use the IR Framework and the grievance procedure.
Even Royal Mail's unagreed sick absence contact strategy states that any meetings during sick absence should be subject to agreement by both parties, that would apply to who holds the meeting as well as timing and frequency.

Think you need to trump him by saying you need the area rep with you

Aside from the fact the DSM should have his own job to do this type of behaviour is designed to intimidate and bring some weight to the process and in this instance the DSM seems to have little faith in the managerial ability of his DOM.
