Hourly rate?

I have just started on a 12 hour temporary contract, but I'm a bit confused about the hourly pay rate. I am being paid £8.37 an hour but I have seen other RM jobs advertised at £8.58. These are both temporary (for varying lengths of time and hours) and permanent. Am I missing out here? I know it's not much, but...

I think the rate goes up when you have been with royal mail for 6 months.

I believe it does but I don't know by how much! But any idea about the starting rate?

Your pay rate should be in your contract.

I've just started (20 hours per week, one year contract) and I'm on £8.58 p/h, which I believe goes up by 50p per hour after 6 & 12 months.

Yes, my pay rate is £8.37 an hour. My query is about why some jobs are advertised with starting rates of £8.37 and some at £8.58. I can't work out why there should be a difference...

Does you job have driving duties ?

I'm thinking along the lines of a small supplement to your wages if you drive - but I'm probably wrong.

I'm on a 24hour contract as 'postman with driving' and I'm on £8.37 too. Been there 6months+

Yes I drive, so shouldn't I be on the higher rate??? At least I am not alone if you are the same AJ1987...oh well, it's only 21p an hour difference.

I noticed the same thing in my area...some are £8.38 and others at £8.58 with exactly the same job discription. I am on £8.38 @ 25 hours per week, although my contract words it as £334 per week (pro rata).

Nope, the rate of pay on the job discription always states 18+ (17 year olds are on £6.67)
