How do you get a PLanners job

With revisions failing up and down the country,more revisions still planned and Flow being rolled out to every office in time Planners must be in Huge Demand with good packages .

Although I have worked for RM for over 10 years now ,a change would be good .
I know of 2 people who became planners ,one with just a few months service and the other with several years service but not on delivery,I have no idea how they got these posistions.They had no idea of Deliverys.

I am not worried about failing as a planner or Messing up a revision as both these people I know of messed up revisions big time ,huge finacial cost to the Company but that did not seem to matter.

I know how to work a lap top ,walk around a office in a suit carrying a lap top bag looking important.
I am sure I could find my way to a coffe machine in a different office and their smoking area.

So what else would I have to do as planner,
I certainly would not want to go out in the cold and test a walk for real when I could sit in a nice warm office.

The actual planning of walks cant take more than half a day sureley,as if its ,messed up its not your fault so you must have plenty of free time to play on the lap top phone your mates up etc.

Sounds just the job I am looking for ,far better than a Managers job.

Lots of responsibility though and IMO you need to be able to think for yourself a little rather than towing company line 100%

Wouldn't mind it as a job but feel that there is too much bullshit and pressure to achieve savings when often there are none to be made.

Your best chance at getting a planners job is to be a failed manager, a relative of a manager or a postie with little seniority thus trying to jump on the gravy train.

2 years ago the planners that came to our office were asking us for our views and suggestions...now that sums up how bright some of the planners are... we told them we are not paid to do their job...needless to say their brain power did not amount to doing much good and another session will be forth coming soon...

Paid for failure... Now that point keeps arising again and again....

I looked at those jobs. I wouldn't last 5 minutes. Id be like "sorry this revision dont work". =D

What does the planner actually do though because it seems all the work is done by computers anyway? At least that is where the blame is usually aimed. If they had any human interaction at all in the process, there wouldn't be the obvious mistakes that have been thrown up, and ignored, in our own just completed revision.

Youve got to kiss backsides, and be clueless on everything to do with a delivery then u will will go along way in royal mail. And always agree with laptop knows better than staff and just ignore everything delivery staff tell you then look forward to your bonus
