7AM starts

At our Delivery Office in Sussex there is a rumour we are going to start at 7am instead of 6.15am .
We changed over to P/L 15 months ago and now this.
Average 2.50 pm finishes are going to be about 3.40pm.
Has this happened in any other areas yet and what happens regarding childcare ?
Might as well just make it 9 till 5

Think yourself lucky, our start times are 8.45 Mon Tues. 8.00 Wed Thurs Frid 8.30 Sat.

What happens at your office when you changed over to later start times about postmen who have to pick kids up from school or childcare Lincox ?

We were a 6.10 start but got moved to 6.45 about 6 months ago when the new MC opened and the local one closed. It had to be negotiated to 6.45 as they wanted 7am start, we've managed to get a 6.30 start on Saturday. RM don't seem to be interested in whether people have to pick kids up from school or not

our duty is 9.15 or 9.00 start but varies in office ,also informed that the closer you arel centre the later you get it

Royal Mail were fortunate that being a small unit in the country, we do not have any child care issues as the youngest is well in his forties. But basically as said before, they do not give a toss what upheaval they create.

RM might be trying to axe some of the runs from MCs to DOs so less drivers would be needed before 6AM

With a 7am start and no longs and shorts, on a 39hr week your duty times are 7 - 14.48.
If you split the meal relief 20/20 then your finish time is 14.28.
Obviously it depends how far you have to travel, but that would normally give you sufficient time to pick up kids from school.

The childcare issue is a bit of a red herring.
If you move to later starts it limits the hours you can work in a day (last letter 3pm in a town) and that limits the possible choices from the menu of options of 1 in 4 Saturdays.

i think that times being tweaked on duties like the ones ive noticed this week that were not notified would cast doubt on that ,

We were 7am starts for the majority right from the off after P&L, "family friendly" and a few select FT duties were given 0630 starts. Contract finish times depend on whether you are Ft or not, FT work "long and shorts" while PT choose overtime or home time from 1430.

What annoys me most, is that it's all so unneccessary.
Nobody wants their mail, parcels, packets,delivered when they are not at home to take them in.
And we all took this bloody job on, mainly because the hours suited. We wanted to start 5.00am, so we could finish early afternoon.
Now the dogs that are running this firm in to the ground, want even later starts, even later finishes.

And worse still, in my book, the dogs that are coming up with this s**t, would scream blue blooody murder, were the shoe on the other foot, and it was they that were inconvenienced for no good bloody reason.
