Change Duty and Lose 1 in 4 Saturdays!!!

had park and loop 18 months now with 8 out of 90 staff on 1 in 4 sats.the other staff were seduced by finishing at 1 on a sat where as we dont get done til 2.30 but thats by the by.1 of the 8 wants to sign for a duty thats come up for repick due to retirement but has been told by manager and rep that if he signs for it then he will have to give up his 1 in 4 sat.can they do this?

Probably yes. Though i will stand corrected (and probably will). But the logic says that if only 8 out of 90 have 1 in 4... and then one wants to move .. Then he/she goes with the arrangment in the duty they transfer to.

I would of thought yes as well if he's signing for a duty that is not 1 in 4,he's got some front for trying it on though.

i see your point but his view is that the whole office should be on 1 in 4 so he shouldn,t be excluded from signing for it.Does that mean nobody else can sign for my duty as i,m a 1 in 4 sat ? I very much doubt it !!!

No what it means is that anyone signing for your duty accepts the duty as is - ie 1 in 4 off.

Conversely if the other bloke wants the other duty that has a 1 in 6 or a fixed day off - then he has to accept that.

It would be very hard to get a 1 in 6 working duty to fit into a 1 - in 4 duty anyway as the make up of the duty and the hours are different.

Also he may think that the whole office should be on 1 in 4, as its part of the agreement. But if the office was properly consulted with Union involvement and a democratic vote was taken, then the wish of the Majority has been taken into account and should be accepted.

I guess when it comes down to it he has a simple choice, what's more important the duty that we wants to go to, or the 1 in 4 Saturdays off - he can't have both without another revision.
