Ay lad, in my day I'd have had all that delivered in an hour and a half, done my overtime and finished by 11 o'clock.

Much as i would normally love a Monty Python reference the farcical way Transformation has been handled in our office is beyond Pythonesque. A mismanaged and rushed plan implemented in October last year was compounded by a refusal by all levels of management to accept ANY mistakes had been made, this left many of our deliveries impossible to achieve in the given time and some staff being bullied and intimidated into doing excess to finish their rounds.
A year on after many meetings, broken agreements and promises our membership lost patience and voted to ballot for strike action which surprise, surprise resulted in planners looking at the problem walks, so as much as i appreciate the humour, walking 8 miles daily around a delivery pulling a golf trolley 4 and half to 5 hours a day for over a year i seem to have lost my sense of humour

Oh please, I've been doing at least a 5 hour duty for the past 4 years, if you let it remove your sense of humour then you will go bat s**t crazy, best thing to do it just cut off, book OT and let management sort out the problems.......that's what we did.presence wrote:cyclemech1 wrote:Ay lad, in my day I'd have had all that delivered in an hour and a half, done my overtime and finished by 11 o'clock.![]()

Errrmm...........GDP1, i'm assuming you are a manager taking the p*ss or a not very bright postman working in one of these fantasy offices we see monthly in the propaganda comic the courier. Firstly i do a 7hrs 48m duty daily for the nationally agreed 39hr week. Secondly my agreed and planned delivery span should be 3hrs 40m but is regularly over 4hrs and sometimes close to 5hrs which i either book excess or cut off.Thirdly the faith you have to, " let the management sort out the problem ", is obviously from a management perspective or from a deluded brainwashed fool. Our line managers, and most managers across Royal Mail, are not managers they have no managerial qualifications or experience and are just postman in a supervisory role who practice favouritism on their postman friends and bullying and intimidation on postman they dislike.
When you say you've been doing a 5hr duty for the past 4yrs i assume you mean delivery span and my question is why? The nationally agreed delivery span before Transformation was less than 3 and a half hours and is now no more than 4hrs so why have you been doing a 5hr delivery? Unless you are a rural which involves mostly driving and not being loaded up like a donkey pulling a trolley for 8 miles and over 4hrs.

You made many assumptions in your post above "presence" and what's worse you called him "not very bright" and "a deluded brain washed fool", both approaches are poor debating techniques, and one (the 2 instances of name calling) is against the rules of RMC. Which is quite surprising as you appear to be making exactly the same points as he did.presence wrote: Errrmm...........GDP1, i'm assuming you are a manager taking the p*ss or a not very bright postman working in one of these fantasy offices we see monthly in the propaganda comic the courier. DGP has never hidden the fact he is on a rural type delivery that has a high town content - in other words its a mixed rural/town with around 600 delivery points IIRC.
You'll also see if you check back on his posts he has cut off or claimed overtime if he wanted - you appear to have taken exception to the "let Management sort it out", which is exactly what they should do. If you are saying that its wrong to expect that and we should sort out the problems the cause then I disagree with you. If however you say they should sort out but they can't, then I agree with you - and so does DGP if his previous posts and the one you took exception too are any guide.

Sorry if i broke any forum rules but having been on deliveries for 25yrs i've seen many changes and none for the better. Our office is in chaos with management happy to keep it that way, split into 6 separate areas all working against each other, being fed corporate bullsh*t at team briefings, postman coming in early, postman finishing their duty and overtime before some have even finished their duty and no union leadership. Our main union rep defected to management when things got sticky, closely followed by our area rep and then another delivery rep, so forgive me if i get a bit annoyed when it's implied i should just get on with it and stop whining which is what our bullying managers have been saying for the last year.
