Hi all, hope you all had a nice Christmas. Just wondering if royal mail put people through their lorry licence? I'm interested in doing this but I know it can be very expensive.

I asked the same question in my interview and was told they don't, but have since learnt DOM's don't always have all the right answers, so i wouldn't know for sure, but i think its only something like £1000 to do it yourself

Are RM HGV Veichles Safe and Road Worthy ?
I suspect the Answer is Yes as HGV Vechiles understand have to be tested by the Ministry /vosa.

Unlike the rest of the fleet RM do their own MOT tests or supposed to ,certainly majority of vans at our place are not safe or fit to be on the Road and we have had vans pass with no brakes and large wholes in the footwell that can be measured in feet .

Vehicle maintenance seems to a bit hit or miss in RM it seems depending on the VSW you use. Our VSW is total cack but the one at the MC which does all the arctics, 17t and 7.5t is pretty good. RM still do their own MOTs and servicing on these but I think they just make a bit more of an effort. Probably because they can't afford to risk losing their operators licence. We had a door fall off a van today after it had come back from being 'repaired' at the VSW. We try and use the RAC as much as possible as they are much better than RM mechanics. If they can't fix it in the yard they have to tow it to the VSW for them to deal with :/

In all fairness I think the RM mechanics get treated the same as us in delivery,far too much work ,no time to do it in and unreachable targets.

I'm sure that is true, but the potential consequences of them failing to do their job properly are far more serious. If a vehicle is not safe it shouldn't leave the VSW.
