royal mail van accident

On December 1st and December 24th 2010 I was involved in two accidents. The first being more substantial as it actually involved a collision with another van. The second was a smaller incident in our loading bay. I won't go into too much detail but I was initially classed as blameworthy for accident with the other vehicle but after giving the name and number of a witness who saw everything and giving my interpretation of what happened it eventually came back as the 3rd partys fault. (It was a no brainer really). The second I accept responsibilty for.

Anyway recently, (infact today) I get told from my manager that I am having a training course 1 hour long in January for having these two accidents back in 2010. 2 YEARS LATER!!! I'm absolutely fuming with this . I asked him why all of a sudden now and why does it say for each of the accidents that I'm blameworthy for both when I'm only blameworthy for one of the accidents. (The one in the loading bay). My manager didn't have an answer for this!! He said i'll have to take it up with the Union. (Which I'm going to do anyway)

I really am p****d off about this as I don't want or need the stupid training.

My understanding is that any accidents get wiped after a year? And surely the purpose of the training is to help with the driving..........surely this shuld have been done back then........not 2 years later....whats that going to do. I'm not going to let them get away with this but don't really know what to do to sort it. I've asked for the number or email of the company who made this ridiculous decision but I'm not holding my breath whether the manager gets it for me .

Should the accident records get wiped after a year?

my advice would be to take the traning

when i did it, a company called drive tech was involved

i believe its the AA or RAC THAT DO THE TRANING NOW.

please do not think this is getting at you in any way. after i had the traning, i was amazed at how my driving standard had improved.
everybody has bad habits

their is driving, and their is safe driving by driving to the condition of the road

please take it, its being paid for by royal mail, and may save a life in the future

The course is more like 3 or 4 hours,and in the future everyone being assessed to drive for Royal Mail will have to do It.A new start in our office had to do It 2 weeks ago.
I did It myself about 9 months ago,for an accident I had about 2 years ago.I personally found It quite useful and helpful.

After our revision three of us were put on a driving course, about 1 hour long. The instructor got you to drive a van. Been driving for years and I would recommend it.

I had a non blameworthy accident in October 2011,i'm wondering now if i'm going to get a letter soon about driver training?

I did a defensive driving course with previous company. It certainly highlighted many areas that you put yourself and others at risk without knowing it, and particularly with motorway driving it helps you to be conscious of where all other vehicles in the vicinity are and gives you better options should an incident occur.

You get paid for the course, take it and don't worry about it........I did one a few years ago after I took a wing mirror off (twice actually) but it did teach me a few things and I think I'm now a better driver.

Am I right in saying that any collisions you have are wiped off your record after a year?

If so surely that's what should have happened here?

I know someone who was sacked on two counts of gross misconduct for ONE accident in a yard. They did not like his excuses about stress and circumstances. CWU tried and failed to help. ATOS and ACAS involved. Had appeal hanging over them over Christmas. Both parties, RM and postie signed gagging orders.
