Overtime/

I started 4 weeks ago on a 24 hr (3day) contract.

I'm constantly being asked to work more, I did 48 hrs first week, 56 the next and 62 last week! To me, This is too much.

I dont want to say no and go home at 2. Because im only on a 6month temp contract

Is my contract likly to be renewed if I just do my 24 hrs, Cutoff and go home?

PS, I ripped the dash off of 1 of the brand new pug vans today, Pushed PDA in and it literally just came off It only has 400 miles on the clock!!!!

62 hours in a week is just plain ********* stupid in my eyes.

DIM's always try it on with new members of staff, yes work overtime if you are happy to do so, but you are a long time dead and working that many hours could cause you to have an accident at work or perhaps even worse.

and as soon as Xmas pressure is over you will be back to your 24 hours and won't get any OT at all as the Teachers pets will get it all as usual.

the reason for the 6 month temp contract is a get out clause for both yourself and RM and as long as you have two arms, two legs and can deliver the mail correctly you will still have a job after your 6 months are up.

They aint as fussy as that at my place..... deliver the mail correctly ?...... as long as it goes out the D.O. door - managers job done

Plus, with PAYE, it seems like you net 3 pence an hour after a certain point.

I didn't do an minute of overtime in my first 6 months, still don't really do any and my contract always gets renewed. To be honest i think all managers care about is getting all the mail out of the office, they don't care by who, just as long as its not there at the end of the day, if you asked them who did what overtime at the end of the week i doubt they would know or care.

I do a tiny bit of overtime by starting earlier. Paid of course. I got no problem with starting earlier. I hardly do any SA collections. One a week max. Some people do stupid amounts and then moan about it. Can understand people need the cash. But to the point it makes you miserable? Im not so sure.

Also it is difficult to say no when your new as you have that contract thing looming over your head. Im on the same contract but 25 hours. Its been renewed each time. Ive refused overtime when I've not wanted it. Do what you are happy with. Not what gets the DOM out the crap. End of the day he/she are only worried about their bonuses. Something we dont get.

the percentage of colleagues who are divorced or separated, certainly in my office, must be greater than the UK average!!
and of those most seem to have made their life at RM, if not 24/7 some pretty near every hour the doors are open!!

I do not like to do overtime, for several reasons, life is too short and I remember talk of the three day week years ago. Share the work. Great quote I read once, no one on their death bed would say "Oh I wished I worked longer hours".
