Scanning Tracked Items

Post by CharlesSpooner »

Since the revision came in around a year and half ago (still no re-sign if you're curious  ) we have a small number of HCT duties. These duties have not been issued with PDA's and as such are not expected to take SD's or Tracked. Recordeds are done on the old cards.

The specials for these are spread between some driving duties and the tracked are normally covered on OT - so far, so humdrum.

However, come Xmas pressure there has been a distinct lack of takers for the Tracked OT due to a large increase in items and people not having time to perform the OT. As a result of this the managers have decided that letterbox sized Tracked should be scanned as delivered while still in the office and then given to the HCT duties to deliver.

Surely not the correct thing?

If it records a GPS location for where the item is scanned then it would probably still get classed as a failure

no it will not show as a failure as it will record the scan as a delivery, regardless of where the scan takes place, so even if scanned in as ready for delivery and then two seconds later as delivered then it will never show up as a failure, however........

a little email to moya wouldnt go a miss, as spacephoenix points out a GPS location is usually recorded so if someone were to check where the tracked items were scanned as delivered then DOM might be in the poo

We've done this for ages . When the tracks come in the letter box size ones are put to one side and scanned as delivered.
Only problem is if for some reason they can't be delivered and come back the phg has to remember not to scan as undelivered
as this will show up on the tracking report.

PHG's should refuse to scan them, walkers should refuse to take them, rep should be on the case, there are a lot of should's in this f***ing game.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

We've been told all tracked must be scanned on the doorstep

And you're straight in the office if you get caught not doing it

stop cutting corners, the package being small could easily fall out of your bag and get lost, when scanned as delivered, the opg would be for the chop.

Unlikely that a whole delivery would be outside GPS/Mobile network. But if a single address/street area is then the PDA stores all relevant information and uploads it when it does get a strong enough signal.

At least thats what I was told by one of super rural drivers.

Absolutely correct the PDA has it's own memory and stores data until docked if it cannot upload.

We don't have enough PDAs in our office so some are scanned and others are put on paper to be scanned by PHG. If they are returns, it is easy enough to scan them as undelivered by the OPG but we don't want to be entering the tracking numbers ourselves; so PHG is not happy...

Manager's fault for not ordering enough PDA despite warning and complaints prior to xams period...

Unfortunately, we also do the short cut by scanning off the doorstep but this I do just before the partner sets off on his/her (yes) loop. So most are scanned regardless of size - still not right to scan away from doorstep and PHG agrees but he still was not happy to scan later.

Some scan as delivered and then scan as undelivered later??? The system should really not allow that :arrrghhh
