UK Borders Agency recorded signed for

I'm trying to help a friend who's getting very anxious about his passport. He needs it by Wed next week for a trip to China.

The UK Borders Agency say they posted it to him on Mon 10 Dec by recorded. He used his work address as that is where is is during the day. No item or P739 left all week, although he admits the office has no letterbox and sometimes they nip out to lunch. The post code is CV4 7EZ.

I explained about Christmas, and the fog etc but he is a bit frantic.

Does anyone here have experience of UKBA? If they say it's posted, is it posted?

Also, my friend has a barcode number from UKBA which he says doesn't tell him anything on track n trace. For a big poster like UKBA do we not scan at the collection?

I don't think Royal Mail deliver passports. Certainly in this area they are done by tracked courier.

Hmmm I thought they used a courier firm rather than Royal Mail to deliver passports these days.

I recently got a new passport and it came by courier and not RM.

I have delivered a few passports in the last couple of years and they were always special delivery, can't see that they would send them out recorded as they will not be able to track them properly.

I think if you send off your passport to get a visa, then the embassy may return the passport by RM.
I think new passports are different though it may be different in different areas.

Up to a few months ago before my duty was changed I delivered many passports by recorded delivery. They use "funny" font settings which I found hard to read at times. My passport came the same way in a blue envelope if I remember rightly with a "tracking" tag inside.

It's not a UK passport. He'd sent it to the BA to get his visa renewed. His employers cocked up the job certification which delayed the visa, hence problem with trip home for Christmas.

Also, we deliver UK passports in our DO sent by recorded all the time. Cannot believe Passport Office do this.

Yo would think that at the very least they would use Tracked (signature required) for them!

I think the expired passports are returned via royal mail but new passports are delivered but a different courier company.

My new passport came via Royal Mail recorded delivery.I also delivered several passports this week which came recorded delivery.I Live in rural Scotland though, where even the couriers don't deliver their own parcels.

lol we get lots of items for cv4 postcode area where as i live in the co4 area suggest you get in touch with chelmsford mail centre

to have an important document sent to an address with no postbox and which sometimes closes for lunch is pretty ill thought out. and this time of year you might be getting your delivery after or before normal buisness hours so where is the delivery operative supposed to put it then?

if you had regular staff doing your delivery last week they should know to try again the next day but if not then the item may well have been returned to the sender and marked up as undeliverable. has the recipient gone along to the delivery office with ID incase it is still there?

a shame your friend may miss his holiday but he has only himself to blame.
