Cars on delivery....yes again!

Is there any circumstance why it's ok to deliver specials and packets in a private car?
I thought it was now a sacking offense? Definately not got business insurance 'cos I asked!

there are limited circumstances where pcod on delivery can continue, and that is very limited, so a little email to moya might stop it happening

The one individual is a young girl, might have quiet word and ask her who said it was ok, the other is the Dim's pet, saw him out on a rural knocking on a door with his car ticking over behind him, dash covered with specials! Ffs, why do security only seem to check me over!

If you use your own car you pay for the tax, insurance, petrol and wear and tear on the car. RM get all the benefit at your expense. Only some kind of muppet would do it. I look forward to the day these fools either get knicked for no insurance, assuming they don't have it or, have mail knicked and get done for that. Bit harsh maybe but that might just help to put a stop to it.

Makes you wonder why RM introduced P&L when most posties were using their own cars for delivery. Can you imagine TNT doing that when their employees were saving them so much money?

Still, once RM they are privatized they will bring it back no doubt.

Most of our office agreed not to use their cars at one point. IIRC prompted by the introduction of absorption outside. Slowly but surely they all drifted back. Apart from me and a few others. Certainly life was made harder for me as I didn't even have a driver to get me out of to the walk. I was told in the previous revision that the duty had been abolished and combine with another and no issue with needing to get any posties out to their starts points because they all used their cars! A prime example of how card users end up making life harder for everyone else.

I would have a nightmare doing my round without the car. I'd like them to either pay my costs for my car each week or supply a works van. I'll get neither and I won't bother raising it with a manager as nothing will happen and I'll start to look like a trouble maker ;)

I use my car to get me from the DO to the start of my walk. Initially took first pouch with me and made a start on delivering whilst waiting for the mail to be dropped out to me. Since being quizzed by an ex copper who lives right where I park my car for the day I no longer do this. I have never claimed any mileage but wondering if I am entitled to. Am sure management will say that it is just part of my commute to work, but slowly realising that they will never offer any information if it means actually paying out.

Given that the initial plan was to remove all cars from delivery over the 3 year span of the BTA - shouldn't this now be an agreement between RM and the CWU, along with the full payment of all outstanding transformation lump sums and the introduction of the 39 hour week.

This is also my understanding. If you are working in a post-revision DO. There should be zero use of cars.

I wonder if there are any guidelines in the agreement around this

Maybe guidlines but no hard and fast rules. Besides, they'd only have me share a van with a load of others I'd have to hang around for so I'd rather they just sorted my insurance and payed for my fuel.

Once an office has had a delivery methods revision it's not a guideline.
Permission to use private vehicles is withdrawn as is the insurance bond.
Failure to comply will be treated as a conduct issue possibly leading to dismissal.

As for RM sorting your insurance and paying for your fuel ....why would they?
You are the one dumb enough to use your car,no-one forces you.

Many (lots) years back I had a borrowed car broken into and the interior destroyed in the process of stealing the mail. That cost me a months wages in just 2nd hand parts to get it driveable. If I tried to claim on the insurance for the damage they would have written the car off.

As for the mail I had to attend interviews from the police and the IB and only by having a good Union rep I was able to keep my job with a 5 year serious warning hanging over my head.

Had this been now I would have certainly been sacked. Using your car as a van for RM is a total mugs game and you fly along over very thin ice on a wing and a prayer, believe me.

Yes. Allowing people to use uninsured cars on delivery should be a sackable offence.
