The 9 day fortnight??

Can someone explain to me how the 9 day fortnight works? (or whatever its called)
Ive recently moved to a new office and they use it there, i never had it at my old place. I did ask someone there but
i have a memory like a sieve =/

Just wondering why i had 1 day off one week then 2 days off the next week? =/
